Hey Logan,
I write marching percussion arrangements using finale 2003. In order to make a snare drum roll sound: First you should write the roll out in layer 1 (layers are shown at the bottom left of the page) using tremolos or whatever looks good to you. Then click on another layer, layer 4 for example. Where the roll is, write out 32nd notes or whatever speed the roll should sound. I use 32nd notes because I don't know how to write a buzz roll. So when you playback to music, you will read the roll notation and hear a 32nd note roll. It sounds really bad and unrealistic but it is the best I can do.
