On the playback controls, the space bar (with the Playback controls panel open) will begin & pause playback.

Fine, but if you toggle between editing and playback, you have to mouse click on the stop button on the controls; otherwise, the playback begins where it left off, and does not include edits. A keyboard shortcut equivalent to clicking on "stop" would be, well, shorter. (Perhaps Shift + Spacebar.)
