Message:To any Finale Engineer or plug-in creator,
I work at a church in California, writing scores for the orchestra to play along with some of the "newer" Contemporary Christian music that is out there. They often don't come with orchestrations, so I write them. I listen to the Artist CD and then write parts that go along with that.
I was looking for someone who could create a plug-in or Finale upgrade that would help me in the creation process...
What I would like is for finale to have some sort of time clock communication to a WAV player, so that I could hear my orchestration at the same time as the WAV file is playing. Let's say, for example, that I am looking at my finale score and my "leftmost" measure is measure number 14. When I press playback in Finale, It starts to play at measure 14...that's great, but I want it to also go to the WAV file and begin playback at the appropriate location. Understand? I am not a programmer, but here are the thoughts I have to put that together,
#1. Create a small program (if it's not already out there) that can either: a. identify the beats in a WAV file, to then automatically "mark" each beat with a timecode language or if the above is not possible... b. allow the user to "mark" the WAV files beats/measures in a friendly, easy way Then, this program would assign those "marks" a timecode value.
The two above possibilities assign values to the beats or measures of a WAV file, but maybe a simpler solution would be to just assign the WAV file with timecode that show seconds going by instead of measure numbers going by.
#2. Then (in Finale) in the playback options, there would need a box to be created that says something like "playback with WAV file....Yes or No?" If you click 'YES' then finale would ask the user to browse for that file and then go to any needed options (depending on the timecode language in STEP #1 above) that would assign timecode values to the Finale measures that could line up with the WAV file.
#3. I imagine it would have to be a decent enough plug-in that could change the tempo in Finale to match the WAV file if any tempos changed. Most people would use this feature to add charts to an existing artist's album, which most are recorded with perfect tempo click tracks, but there are always those live albums.
I'm not sure if I explained myself completely enough here, but if you are a programmer/engineer you probably know what I'm trying to say. I'd love to find someone who can make this happen. I've sent this email to FINALE people, plug-in creators, and programmers. If you are not personally familiar with Finale, go to www.codamusic.com and check it out. I believe you can download a demo and then give me a call and I'll show you where in finale different menus and options are.
Call me/write me with ideas or questions
