Re: The page limit that Finale shows is not the same as what it prints

I think you're saying that systems are being moved forward or backward a page when you print. I would check margins as well as page size, but the best way would be to make your document available so someone can look. If it's too big to attach here, maybe you could put it on Dropbox or the like.

Re: No sound when I used Finale

I'm glad that worked. I've found that if you don't have a microphone, Finale will revert Audio settings to the default, which is a pain in the neck for me, since I don't usually have a microphone hooked up on my desktop. I've been forced to write a Finale Script that I must run clunkily each time--b...

Re: How can Finale Mac read an Encore file

I've got Finale 2005b which I still use occasionally. I'm happy to use it to read your file and write a .mus file, which you should then be able to open in the latest version of Finale.

Re: No sound when I used Finale

That's the way ASIO works on Windows. It's a "feature" and not limited to Finale, I don't think.

Re: No sound when I used Finale

Just quitting Finale won't do it?

If you're using the ASIO audio driver, it only allows one program at a time to use it. I got something called FlexASIO that gets around it, or you can switch to a non-ASIO driver.

Re: Disappearing Rehearsal Marks

I don't know what happened, but you can use a single auto-sequencing mark for everything--there's a feature that lets you start the sequencing over again. Right click on the first mark in each new movement and pick Edit Rehearsal Mark Sequence. There, you can restart the sequence.

Re: Clarinet in Bb staff

I don't think Change Instrument is the way to go in this instance. I suggest you start over and create your piece with the setup wizard, specifying all instruments rather than adding them later. Then things will have the correct transposition and staves and all parts will be created with the correct...

Your part is labelled "CLARINET in Bb:" but the staff it displays is Mezzosoprano. Perhaps that's what's confusing you.

Re: Articulations all broke

Is this a pre-Finale 27 file you've opened in Finale 27? If so, try setting Document/Set Default Music Font to "Finale Maestro" (not plain "Maestro").

I would just use the repitch tool to correct it.

Can Encore write a MusicXML file? That would be the way to do it

They look like compressed ties. Typing a T would create them. If you haven't already, reboot the computer.

Re: Stems up in Rhymic notation

Apparently the stem settings for the staff don't apply to rhythmic notation. Instead, edit the staff style Rhythmic Notation, where you'll find a "stems up" option.

Re: Adding new instrument to score

You'll have to redo any changes you made to the preferences, that's all.

It seems Finale stores other state information in that file, and that's where the bugs manifest.

Re: "File not found."

Sounds like you accidentally deleted it. Look in the Recycle bin. There also might be a .bakx or .asvx file that will help. I hope you've made backups during those two years.

Re: Undertie 2 syllables

I'm not much of a lyrics user though I have used it some. It seems kind of ancient and flakey. Look in the lyrics window and see if you find your undertied lyrics there. You may have to click-assign them again.

Re: I just lost hours of work!

There might be a .bakx file that's usable, but you may be out of luck and your file may be corrupted. I'm guessing you accidentally hit some wrong keys--easy to do--or maybe hitting Ctrl-S every few seconds did it. Use the Autosave feature in the future--no need to constantly save. Every 10 minutes ...

Re: Isolated MIDI tracks detuning on playback

Try going to the Selection tool, selecting all, then doing Edit/Clear Selected Items and pick MIDI Data (only). Sometimes pitch bend commands get in there somehow, especially if you entered music with your Roland or imported it from elsewhere.

If you mean typing K to get "Keyboards" here, click on that column first. But you might as well just click Keyboards.

I'm not sure where your pressing K (a Mac thing?), but if you're sure you're experiencing a sudden change in the way Finale's keyboard shortcuts work, try these things in order: 1) Restart Finale 2) Restart the computer 3) Reset All Preferences on the Preferences page If you've made any customizatio...

Re: A Possible Flaw In Finale

I think you're right that Finale is wrong here (I've never used Transpose All Key Proportionally myself). In my opinion Minor Key is best avoided in setting up key signatures. It can cause other problems as well--unnecessary key-cancelling accidentals at key changes is one, as shown below. I use Maj...
