Following suit with most other programs, would be nice if Finale were backwards compatible - I have students who have done their work in Notepad 2006 or Finale 2006, and I can't load them in Finale 2004.

You won't be able to do that until they wise up and start from scratch to remake the program - and then you will only be able to have backwards compatibility with editions that happen after the makeover.
Why? Because Finale keeps adding code onto code onto code for their "feature upgrades" year after year...without actually trying to fix many of the "broken" codes. |

Perhaps a possibility with MusicXML?
