Re: Steps to shrink 6-page lied (voice and piano) to 5?
Here is what I would try. First, transfer the music to a larger page size. For example, if it is on size 8.5x11, copy it onto 9x12 (or perhaps even a bit larger). This should reduce the total number of pages (if not, you'll need to use trial and error to find a big enough size which does the trick)...

Re: Staff & System Spacing gone Berserk. Help!
I am not having a problem with the width of measures. I can lock the desired number of measures into a system and the system will not re-flow horizontally. The problem is vertical. I begin with page 1 using the Page Layout tool and with the mouse I grab the various handles on the staves and move th...

Staff & System Spacing gone Berserk. Help!
Finale PrintMusic 2009 for Mac OS 10.4 Am doing a score for SATB plus piano and 2-3 percussion parts. I am making use of page optimization where appropriate to hide empty staves on some pages for a better fit and look. I began by using a page size of 8.5x11. After doing a few pages, I saved the file...

Name that tune!
This is another one of those "Name that tune" problems. For a long time, this particular tune has been going through my head, my having heard it around 1969 or thereabouts at which time I had made a tape recording of it from the radio (or possibly a vinyl LP?). I'd played back the recording enough t...

Re: Putting more space between staves for vocal
Thank you both. That worked well.
Another question: Having put more space between staves, is there quick and easy way to move the lyrics line up or down as a whole, without having to move individual syllables?

Putting more space between staves for vocal
I want to put more space in between crowded staves where I have lyrics. See attached sample. Otherwise, the notes run into the lyrics.

Re: Expressions and Layers
This is just an idle thought, but if you're trying to create a sound file with some of the piano notes sounding softer than others, could it be done by scoring the piece for two pianos? Put loud dynamics on one piano part, and softer dynamics on the other; then score the notes appropriately for each...

Re: Export to Audio File Changes the tempo(?)
I didn't know Audacity could do that. Thanks, I'll give it a try.Peter Thomsen wrote:I don't know what might cause the tempo change, but if the playback tempo is correct, when you play the .mus document in PrintMusic, then you could use Audacity to record PrintMusic's playback to an audio file.

Export to Audio File Changes the tempo(?)
I wrote a piece for saxophones, violin, guitar, and bass. The .mus file plays fine, the way I want it to. However, when I export the audio file to an mp3 (or even an aif) the tempo changes to a much, much slower speed. Why would that possibly happen? The files can be downloaded here: http://www.erni...

Re: Bassoon playing wrong notes
I kind of solved the problem myself by doing three things: (1) I cut the bassoon part out. (2) I pasted it into the contrabass staff where I played it and it sounded OK; (3) I then cut it from the contrabass part and replaced it into the bassoon staff. After a re-start of Finale PrintMusic it sound...

Bassoon playing wrong notes
I've made an orchestration. But upon playback, the bassoon part in Measure 9 sounds like it's playing the wrong notes. In fact, it sounds like a french horn reading the part and using its own staff and key signature. I've checked to make sure those two instruments are on different channels. I've eve...

The guy who re-worked my piece was attempting to rewrite it a bit more to his liking, change a few rhythms, and change some of the instrumentation. No real attempt (that I am aware of) was made to simply enhance the existing instrumentation in order to make it sound more realistic. Whether the instr...

I'm no expert on this, but a few months ago someone wanted to do almost exactly what you are talking about using one of my PM .mus files. I sent him a copy of the .mus file, then he told me he was not able to open that, and suggested I try sending him a MIDI file. This he was able to use and manipul...

Measure numbering is off
See attachment. I have written a drum part. The measure numbering (as indicated by the numbers at the beginning of each staff) is OK until we get past measure 31. Letter-D should be measure 35, followed by D-2 which is 36; then begin the next line with measure 37. But the software has numbered it as...

Wendy, I'm wondering about something. Are you by any chance referring to a caesura , which is a mark used to indicate a pause between two notes, and occurs inside a measure? And the two lines are slanted? See attached image. This symbol is often referred to as "railroad tracks." When you mentioned u...

How to hide left hand piano staff on selected systems?
I am doing a piano part for Jazz Ensemble. For most of it, I want a single staff with chord symbols. For some of it (at the beginning, for example), I want to show two staves for left and right hand. Attached is an image of the way I WANT it to look. However, when I try to hide the left hand for jus...

How do I do a score without a key signature?
I've finished putting in a full score for orchestra. The piece does not have a tone center. This works out fine for the instruments that do not transpose. For the transposing instruments, however, each one has a key signature of either 1 sharp or 2 sharps, with all the corresponding notes written an...

Can anybody name this tune?
This is not a Finale problem, but I thought I'd post it here because it's as good a place as any. This well-known tune is now going through my head because I just woke up from a dream about it. I know it's from somewhere, and I know it has lyrics, but I can't place it. Can anyone identify?

reeveskd, you are a life-saver! Your fix worked thoroughly. Glad you got it working. When you added that additional instrument, have you assigned it to a different channel than the previous instruments? I am not familiar with channels and how they work, so I can't answer that question. All I know is that when I added the additional instrument after the fact...
