right-click on the copied staff style and choose Use Selected Staff Style for Score and Parts Thanks for the reply. This does fix the problem with the pasted part, but it's still an extra step. I believe there may be a bug in Finale's software, but I figured I'd check here to see if anyone else has the same issue. Welp, that sure enough fixed it.
Luckily when I saved to Desktop, even though I was getting the error message, the saved version appeared on my desktop when I restarted. So nothing was lost
