Re: How to enter stacked piano chords?
This is what I needed. Thanks. What about entering an "upper voice" where the notes aren't the same duration? For example, in a 4/4 piece: the top line of the piano part has a stack of 2 whole notes for the lower sostenuto voices; the top voice has melodic eighth notes. Do I add the top line as a se...

How to enter stacked piano chords?
Finale SW 2012. Windows 7. Please excuse the basic-ness of this question. How does one enter a stack of notes on the same beat of music, such as for a piano piece? I've entered the melody line but am stuck when trying to add notes beneath the existing notes. I've tried layers but can only enter the ...

Transpose for different instrument
Songwriter 2012. Is it possible to transpose one part of a duet? I play Bb Clarinet and want to play duets with a violin (in C). So I'd like to transpose the violin part so it sounds good with a Bb clarinet, but leave the clarinet part alone. I've played around a bit with Finale transposing but not ...

SW 2012 to Printmusic?
Is anyone aware of compatibility problems between SW and Printmusic? I sent a SW file (.mus) to a friend who has PM but it won't open. Nor did it open when transferring via flash drive. Thoughts?

Repeat barline mid-measure
SW 2012 for Windows. Is it possible to insert a repeat barline in the middle of a measure, instead of at the end? For example, I have a song in 4/4 where the phrase for Section 1 ends on beat 3 of measure eight, then repeats once. Section 2 starts on beat 4 of measure eight, and the phrase ends on b...

Re: How to copy expression markings?
In the new measures I was going to put a harmony line. The expressions would stay the same. My plan, since I don't know music theory well, was to auto-harmonize (which gives identical note lengths) and then tweak some of the notes to be longer, shorter, etc.

Re: How to copy expression markings?
Miker,
Deleting the notes also deletes the expression. The way you suggested would probably work but it would overwrite the existing notes. Now that I know it's not possible I can explore workarounds.
Just out of curiosity, is this possible in the full Finale?

How to copy expression markings?
In SW 2012 for Windows, how do I copy things like hairpins, dynamics, articulation markings, etc? When I lay out music with 2 staves per system, I'd like to use identical markings on each staff without recreating/resizing/repositioning them.
Thanks.
Thanks.

How to edit layers after auto-harmonizing
I have SW 2012, Windows. I recently added a harmony line to a simple melody using "Band-in-a-Box" auto-harmonizing. The trouble is, the harmony line was added to the same layer as the melody line. This means I can't "show selected layer" and work on one line of music. How do I move the Melody line t...

Instrumentation - ensembles
In SW 2012, is there a way to take an existing piece of music and have SW replace the instruments with an ensemble such as woodwind trio, brass quintet, etc? For example, I have a couple .mus files that I'd like to test with different instrument combinations, but the only way I can do it now is line...

How to copy lyrics to another staff
In SW 2012 I've written the lyrics on Staff 1 but want to copy them en masse to Staffs 2,3,4. Can SW do that? I know I can copy the entire Staff 1, notes and all, onto Staff 2 and then readjust the pitches but that would be laborious. Ideas?
Thanks,
Larry

Re: How to create a round
Sorry guys, I didn't think this was such a complicated topic! The other attachments didn't come through as rounds because they played all parts simultaneously, not part 1 alone, then after a couple bars parts 1 & 2 together. What I was looking for is a way of notating a piece of music so that: the f...

How to create a round
In SW 2012 for Windows, how do I create a simple 3-line round. For example, part 1 starts; part 2 waits 8 bars, then starts at the beginning; part 3 waits 16 bars, then starts at the beginning. Thanks, Larry

Layers
How do I copy notes from one layer to another in Songwriter 2012 for Windows? For example, I want Layers 1 and 2 to be unison for 8 bars. Can I enter the notes in Layer 1 and copy them to Layer 2, or do I need to manually re-enter every note in Layer 2?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: How to create independent sections in same song
By "export to graphics" I assume you mean a pdf. I'm not sure exactly how to do that in SW. May print it using a pdf creator, than paste it onto the original piece. Thanks.

How to create independent sections in same song
I have combed the User Guide and Forums for hours but can't seem to do this simple thing. I'd like to make a piece of music suitable for rounds. This involves having 3 individual sections, not tied to the others, but "stand-alone" on the page. For example: Section 1. Four bars. Four-part system. Sec...

Re: Specify volume in mixer
Thanks guys. It turns out Peter hit the nail on the head - Songwriter 2012 does indeed have the "mix" function in Score Manager. You have to use the Customize View button and choose "mix". Then the "V" (volume) field appears on the instrument list, allowing input of numerical volume settings. It tra...

Specify volume in mixer
Songwriter 2012 Windows. When using the mixer dialog, I know how to adjust the volume using the sliders. But I'd like to set the volume numerically rather than adjust the slider and hope it lands on the correct volume without needing readjustment. Is this possible? Maybe not in mixer; what about one...

How to transpose
How do I transpose a song from one key to another? I wrote a 4-part piece in D major but want to transpose it to, say, F major. For Bb Clarinet.
My goal is to click a button and voila, the whole song shifts correctly, accidentals added as needed, key signature changes, etc. Thanks,
Larry
