Mikes, thanks for your prompt reply! Yes it does it on every document. How does one trash the Finale preferences?
When I get home I will post a sample file.

When I try to add text anywhere on the page using the 'T' icon it places the text where I entered it AND on the instrument area (left side of the staff) AND it places itself in the 'instrument' list in the Window section.
