Re: First TAB measure is misbehaving

Ah! Thank you so much, instantly fixed it!

I don't understand how it had turned into a pickup measure; I created the file from my custom template as I always do, and started notating normally as I always do (the composition doesn't even have an intro just yet.)

Glad that was solved so quickly!

[solved!] First TAB measure is misbehaving

I'm still new to creating tabs, but trying to follow instructions. I'm getting a first tab measure that behaves in a strange way; it's as if most of the measure area is somehow unusable and inactive, with the active area squeezed into the very end of the measure, too small to even select. The workfl...

Re: Guitar chord diagrams: Different fingerings for the same chord in same document?

Thank you, problem solved! :) I must admit I'm still a bit confused about making any custom chords and things so that I'd have everything available to me in the future. Maybe I'll look up a tutorial on something like that, unless someone has made a nice downloadable resource of all this chord relate...

Guitar chord diagrams: Different fingerings for the same chord in same document?

When you manually correct one guitar chord diagram to be played in a certain way, this is applied to the chord everywhere in the document as it's what you usually want. However, sometimes in different parts of a song, you want it to be played differently, for example because one part of the song is ...

Custom fretboard diagram style for all future documents?

Even though I don't play guitar, I find that having the fretboard diagram underneath the chord symbol helps a great deal in visually perceiving where the chords are; it makes them stand out. But the standard fretboard diagrams are too tall, so I edited a fretboard style to replicate the vertically s...

Can I assign a different font for different verses?

I'm trying to learn a song in a language that I have not studied before. I'd like to place the original lyrics underneath the notes as usual, but add them in IPA (international phonetic alphabet) above that. I understand that I could do it by applying the IPA version as if it were 1st verse lyrics, ...

Re: Create a mod wheel slide expression?

Just to clarify: are you speaking specifically of the Pitch Wheel? Not pitch, but mod. If it was pitch, I would simply write the notes and connect with ties or glissando ribbon (whatever its real name is!) Modulation is often not applicable to orchestra VST instruments but with typical synthesizers...

Create a mod wheel slide expression?

I’m working with a song where synth expression is very important and I’d like Finale to play it as accurately as possible. Since there doesn’t seem to be a standard way to notate synth expression, you have to make it up. Specifically, I have a note that I’d want Finale to start with modulation value...

Thanks, that worked!

So there referred to Edit menu > Edit Filter..., then unchecking "Chords".

Move notes but not the chords?

I entered the chord markings first, then wrote notation under it. In the middle, I made a timing mistake and I need to shift a train of populated measures on by one measure while keeping all the chord markings on the measures that they're on.
Is there a way to do this?

Re: Instrument volume per patch, not per staff?

Ah I see. Well, so far I have always used ties in the entry tool to extend notes that don't change in pitch, and especially when the note extends over into the next bar. In such case, Finale indeed manages to play the notes uninterrupted, hence understanding the tie. You're correct, I have made slur...

Re: Instrument volume per patch, not per staff?

Oh okay... But now I find it a bit confusing: So I needed to assign instruments to different channels when I want their volume controls to be independent of one another. Are you saying that channel independency does not also grant panning and expression independency, but those are values tied to the...

Re: Instrument volume per patch, not per staff?

… Is there a reason why the device column has SmartMusic SoftSynth from number 1 to 8, and the different numbers appear to be arbitrarily assigned for the layers of my document? What's the difference of these identical yet different devices? … There is no difference between them. You have 8 indepen...

Re: Instrument volume per patch, not per staff?

Oh I didn't know that I can customize the view! I searched the forum at first but to a thread I found, someone had responded that you couldn't change volumes without adding new instruments. Turns out, what I thought was oddly silent had its volume at 60 for some reason, while everything else was at ...

Instrument volume per patch, not per staff?

I'm transcribing an existing funk song as an exercise. In the kind of pop music sheets that you see around, the usual minimum is to have a single staff for vocals, lyrics and chord markings, then a grand staff below it to describe how the chords are actually played and what's going on with the bass....
