My solution for this is to create two scores: one with the tie ends for print, and another fully written out for playback. Not ideal, but it works for me…
My solution plays back correctly.

Re: Tie to repetiition 2

Right. A "frame" is one measure on one staff, so you need to do it on each staff. And for the right hand, since there are two notes, after doing it for the first note, click Next note and check to box for that note, too.

Re: Tie to repetiition 2

Go to the Speedy Entry tool and Ctrl+click on the staff in the first measure of the second ending. It will pop up a dialog labelled "Edit Frame." Check the box labelled Tie End. This will give correct notation and playback.

Re: How to change the Simply Entry Tool default note value?

I think it's Option (or Alt) + QWERTY number, but just plain keypad number. I, too, get eighth note as default. On Windows, you can set up a Keyboard shortcut to start on a Whole note (shown below), but I guess the Mac version doesn't have anything similar. Perhaps FinaleScript? Or "Keyboard Maestro"?

Re: 1st and 2nd time bars in measure count

There's an old practice of not including the first ending when numbering measures. I'm not sure how that came about, but I think Elaine Gould's advice of numbering everything, as quoted by Peter above, is good, and that's what Finale does by default.

Re: Instrument change sometimes makes expressions and lines wig out

It looks like a bug having to do with going from a five-line staff to a one-line staff. It looks like if you use a five-line staff, apply your dynamics and hairpins, and only then change to one line, that will get around it and is probably preferable to copying from another staff.

Re: How do I use notes as text?

My complaint about Maestro Times is that it's very hard to find the symbols you want, since they're scattered far and wide with not much organization. So it's hunt and peck, and can be frustrating. It looks like the new Finale Maestro Text may be a little better, since Finale puts things in categori...

If playback is your concern, you can use JW Change to turn off playback on a note-by-note basis.

Re: How do I use notes as text?

There are various fonts that can do this. Probably the easiest is a shareware thing called Museglyphs.

You'd type ss = es3 to get this (it's documented):

Re: Hiding a staff within a part

There is a way, but it's arcane: 1) In Document Options/Multimeasure Rests, uncheck Update Automatically. 2) Go to the Guitar part, Selection tool. In page view, lock all systems. 3) Turn off the usage of the copy filter if on. Still in your Guitar part, go to scroll view, select the soprano measure...

Re: Hiding a staff within a part

Yes, I see that it's not creating multimeasure rests where there are notes in the hidden soprano staff. I'm not sure what you can do about that without extracting the part and deleting those soprano notes.

Re: Bug: Notes added when changing time signature

If you have "check for extra notes" selected as a Speedy entry option, just moving from one measure to the next will give you the option of pushing the extra notes to the next measure. But to delete it, you don't have to push Delete four times--instead, use the right-arrow to move to the unwanted no...

Re: Bug: Notes added when changing time signature

Not a "bug," I wouldn't say. When you change 4/4 to 3/4, the measure is then overstuffed with a fourth note; it looks like it's in the following measure, but it's not. You're right that it's odd, but I think Finale pretending it was still 4/4 as far as spacing goes wouldn't be right, either. If you'...

Re: Put lowest note between parentheses

Instead of articulations, you could create a set of expressions. One of the vertical alignment choices is "bottom note." It will take some fiddling around to get it right, but then you can assign them with a metatool and click them in similarly to doing it with articulations. If you have relatively ...

Re: Need Time Signature Visible on All Lines

I don't think there's an automatic way, but you can make doing it manually easy. DO THIS AT THE VERY END OF YOUR PROJECT, after entering all music, etc. First, lock all systems. In the Selection tool, select all, and press L. Next, switch to the Measure tool (all measures should still be selected). ...

Re: Hiding a staff within a part

The Force Hide Staff staff style is what you want, applied with the Staff tool while in the part. Select what you want to hide, but instead of picking the staff style by right-clicking, use the menu to choose Apply Staff Style To->Current Part/Score before selecting the staff style.

Re: Digital parts - how do they work?

That seems wise of them. I'm in the business of renting out orchestra music, and can tell you things are nowhere near universal usage of tablets (quite the opposite--about 1/4 of those I polled said they would want tablet versions alone). The biggest iPad, the iPad Pro 12.9 inch, is only letter size...
