Re: Spacing issue when exiting speedy entry

Finale doesn't pass down settings from version to version, no.

Re: Another bug I'm fed up with...

In Space Systems Evenly, you probably want to check "don't change the number of systems on each page."

Re: Another bug I'm fed up with...

I'm not sure what you mean. If you use page breaks where necessary, then you can Space Systems evenly for all pages at once.

Re: Spacing issue when exiting speedy entry

Automatic Music Spacing is a good thing to leave on until you're doing final tweaking at the end. For your hymn I doubt you need to turn it off.

Re: Spacing issue when exiting speedy entry

It may be that each new version has Automatic Update Layout off. It wouldn't be the first stupid thing they've done.

Re: Another bug I'm fed up with...

What I do is go from the beginning of the document to the end, inserting manual pages breaks where need be. Then I do Space Systems Evenly one page at a time.

Re: add a .jpg image

There's a great freeware program you can download called IrfanView for viewing and manipulating images. To capture part of your screen, Press Windows_key+Shift+S”. Your screen will appear grayed out and your mouse cursor will change. Click and drag on your screen to select the part of your screen yo...

Maybe Googling "Mac Ctrl-F2" (or Command or Option, whichever it is) will lead to more info.

Re: Spacing issue when exiting speedy entry

Looks like you've got Automatic Music Spacing turned off in Preferences. Turn it on and leave it on--there's nothing to be gained by having it off. I know Mike will disagree, but it's Automatic Music Spacing that's messing with your manual spacing, not Automatic Update Layout, which is only a screen...

Re: Strange spacing between voices?

Cello and bass were commonly written on once staff in older music. It's assumed that the bass will sound an octave lower. Bass players will just take the notes beyond their range up an octave.

Re: Strange spacing between voices?

Go to Document Options/Music Spacing, and set Manual Positioning to Clear. Then select all in the Selection tool and respace. Then set Manual Spacing back to Ignore. (Whatever that means--I've never understood that setting.) This must have happened as you were entering those parts, but I couldn't sa...

Re: Strange spacing between voices?

Well, that's bizarre. It seems to be only second trombone, second baritone, and cello (which can't play below a C, by the way). I will continue to explore.

Re: add a .jpg image

I assume you're talking about attaching a file to a posting here. There is a limit to the size of uploads. Try to limit what you're illustrating to a particular spot rather than a screen shot of the entire screen. You could also use .png with a color depth of 256 colors instead of a 24 gazillion col...

Re: Strange spacing between voices?

You mean layers, not voices, and that this should not be needed, I think. It looks like layer 2 is offset everywhere by a tiny amount. I assume you've respaced. If so, can you attach your file exhibiting the problem? It only needs to be a few measures.

Re: Is this a bug? Spacebar+click to play

I agree that doing on the barline is in no way a feature.

I think you'll just have to get used to clicking in the middle of the measure and realize that this means the start of the measure, then you'll be fine. I never make this mistake. MakeMusic will likely never fix it.

Look in the Tools menu, Advanced Tools/Special Tools. Every Finale tool is under the Tools menu somewhere.

Re: no audio when I input notes

There's a "MIDI Thru" setting that controls this. On Windows it's in MIDI/Audio->Device Setup. Though I couldn't explain why it's suddenly changed for you. If that doesn't explain it, try these in order

1) Restart Finale
2) Reboot the computer
3) Reset your preferences

Re: staccato font missing when I merge scores

There are SMuFL fonts (which generally have "Finale" in their names) and non-SMuFL fonts (which don't). They don't mix. If you're going to merge the two, you need to convert documents based on non-SMuFL fonts to SMuFL. "Document" menu, "Set Default Music Font."

They've only had 15 or 20 years to fix this. Give them time.

If Lua has a way to manipulate libraries, it would be a useful plug-in to fix this.

What do you mean by "progress bar"? If you mean the scrolling controls at the bottom of the window, that sounds like a Finale problem. Try going to Edit/Preferences and clicking Reset All Preferences at the bottom.
