Re: Problems using tablature
I don't know what the OP used but Musitek, makers of SmartScore, do have the tablet app, Music-to-XML. However, this isn't SmartScore and my understanding is the results are not as good as using a flatbed scanner and SmartScore. I don't think it offers any editing of the scanned result so the good a...

Re: Finale 2011 - where can find install files and a license
You can't transfer a Finale license unless it is for the current version so this rules out anybody who has one kicking around. Using Finale 27 and getting help with somebody who is using 2011 might not be the easiest thing to do but it would be a lot better than nothing. Resisting the urge to write ...

If you want to do the ear method, have a look at the $39US Transcribe! program if you need a bit of assistance.

Re: Yesterday's FInale 27 update
I try to open files both ways: by clicking on them in WIndows and by opening them from in FInale. I uninstalled FInale, restarted the computer, downloaded a new installer zip and reinstalled. I still can't 'save' files in progress. I can only 'save as' even for files I've already worked on. Did you...

Heinzfan has given you the course to follow and a quick look at the PreSonus site seems to indicate your device is supported on Windows 11 so it is certainly worth pursuing with them.

Re: MUSX "Invalid File Type" in Finale 2012
You've indicated the PC was "quirky right out of the box". It seems that if the hardware or OS environment has a problem then that should be corrected first. No reason to expect any program should be happy if the underlying support systems have a problem. I'd check or get this checked out before jum...

Re: Where does one buy older versions of finale?
... Thanks! And yes but how does one convince finale to change? I see so many complaints (which I often share) on this forum but everyone here still uses the program. The oft quoted advantage of Finale is that you can do almost anything you will ever need to do with it - assuming you don't go sligh...

From your AVS4YOU reference, I'd say you are on a PC. Sure there are problems but I'm glad to see MusicXML being used because its adoption by a wider user-base spurs development and it has come a long way in its lifetime. Not so long ago about the only broad interchange format was MIDI.

Re: Artificial Intelligence to convert flat pdf's to MusicXML
No knowledge of what's happening, artificial or otherwise. I use SmartScore and it does a good job but it is dependent on the quality of the original input. I think this is where AI could be of benefit, take a handwritten score or a marginal printed score and produce a high quality original that cou...

My Roland keyboard has a "seashore" sound which maybe would help. I think there is a MIDI number 122 or 123 for it, in the Roland setting it is B83. Not a MIDI expert so maybe there is better one.

For the few extra dollars you have great speed and the machine will likely remain NICELY useable for a longer time. Often, people tolerate a lot of irritation on a slow computer-it works but it's a struggle.
Enjoy it!

Re: MusXML comparison
I don't see why any XML comparison program wouldn't work since XML files are just text files and the program is probably just doing a text comparison. Of course, some programs do things better than others - a problem with comparison programs can result if there is enough of a discrepancy in the file...

Re: save to mp3
I certainly won't argue that I could fill in some blanks but when I see things in free MuseScore I wonder if putting the effort into learning a program that appears to come with enhanced ability (at least in some useful areas) makes some degree of sense. I'm not that naive that I think MuseScore doe...

Re: still puzzled - quantization
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. If you want to have something to listen to your handiwork then hook up the keyboard to Audacity and record it. I'm not surprised at your result with Finale - most people want to try and fix up their imperfect timing with quantization so the notation isn't...

ebiggs, I wish you wouldn't post things like that :) ! And that's the problem with videos. There are lots of things they are the ideal medium and there are other times that I much prefer to have written steps and I try to avoid videos. Problem with a lot of written instructions is they start by saying things like go to Gobblygook menu but don't give you...

Years ago when I ran a computer support group and office automation was taking off, people would call with a "How do I" question. They often were told that it is in the manual under ABCD. Invariably, the response was, "That manual is so big, I don't want/have time to use it and it is easier for me t...
