Contemplating upgrade. List of bugs/fixes?
Hi all, I am on Finale 25 that needs to have the Windows print spooler routine turned off in order to start at all. I believe this bug has been taken care of in the later versions, is that right? Furthermore, is there any comprehensive list of what bugs remain in Finale 27? It would be good to know ...

Re: Musescore the answer?
(Having to take hands off the keyboard to enter a rest the Dorico way would be slamming on the brakes.) It's to Finale's credit that this is even possible. You have a key in Dorico to advance the cursor the selected note duration, so in practice that will function the same as entering rests in Simp...

Re: Musescore the answer?
Regarding XML import -- Generally I have had reasonable results importing XML files generated by Finale into Dorico. However, sometimes I have had better results first importing into Musescore, then exporting from Musescore, and then importing into Dorico. There will always be problematic situations...

Re: XML functionality in different versions
Yes, I understand that. I do need the best xml export possible because I also work with other programs, hence the question. My guess is that there is no difference between 25-26, but that 27 will perform differently because of the 4.0 support, is that right? If so, the question is -- how much better...

XML functionality in different versions
Hi all,
I have 2014.5 and 25, have been using mostly 2014.5 but transitioning to 25 more and more.
What about XML, are there big differences in the different versions? I am thinking about 2014.5 (where there still is a Dolet plugin if needed) to the most recent, 27.
Thanks in advance.

Fun indeed! I always get a bit nostalgic when I visit that old forum. I learned so much there. Good that it is still online for reference.

Re: Shortcuts for Scrolling?
In the old forums there are scripts for exactly this. AHK for windows, for OSX I am not sure. I usually did not go much to the Mac side of the forum. Link please? What Motet wrote is right, but there was also a solution from Charles Lawrence that did not use keystrokes. The longest thread is here: ...

So, I just found this thread, finally taking the time to investigate if there is a solution to the crash reports never ever being sent properly. But I guess there is not? Still on 2014.5.

Re: OT: Another clarinet question
Personally, I would prefer switching if there is time for it. But I would also say that it might depend on the character of the music. Sometimes one or the other seems more suited to the mood and feel and the instrumentation around.

Thanks Motet, good to know!motet wrote: Don't use ampersand! That's the XML escape character. If you put that in your lyrics it will be rendered & in the XML file; if you then change that you'll be really screwed up.

Re: Underscores in lyrics?
Exactly, Harpsi. I got the same results and that's why I chose % as the character to substitute in my font, and why I don't understand why MM don't do the same thing in the Finale Lyrics font. It's so much more convenient just to type in the elision slur directly when you need it. I can't think of ...

Re: Underscores in lyrics?
According to my testing you could use any of
@
£
$
%
&
{
}
Neither of these exist in the xml file I am running for testing, generated by Finale 2014.5.

Re: Underscores in lyrics?
This is how I would solve it. Use a unique character for entering the elision in the lyrics tool which will not be in other use in the generated xml-file, like maybe # or $ or something like that. Export the xml as usual. Edit the xml-file with a text editor and do a simple search/replace to exchang...

Re: Cues problems again
Agreed. I am actually finishing my last major project in Finale now, never thought that would happen. It was a close call - I decided to finish the project in Finale, but looking back I wonder if it wouldn't have been more efficient after all to xml-transfer the whole 400+ pages 18th c. opera score ...

Re: Cues problems again
I must confess that after struggling with exactly this sort of problems, I started using a separate score for the parts. There is simply no decent way around it IMO, using a parts score is the best way. So that's what I would recommend.

Re: Files disappearing during save
Thanks Zuill, that's apparently the one thing I forgot to do when I migrated to a new computer recently. From recommendation from you and others I use to keep the temp folder like that, thanks for reminding me.
Let's see if that does it.

Files disappearing during save
Have you noticed?
While a save is performed (on Windows) the file being saved disappears from the folder, and then appears again. Do you also have this behaviour? Is it normal?
Scary.

There is also a JW plug-in to help with this procedure. JW split groups or something like that.

Gogreen, as it is a Java application it might be possible to run it on Mac also. However, on the website it is only listed for Windows and Linux.
Musikai, that seems very interesting! I will try it out when I have time.

Some freeware: To merge PDFs together, you might find the NYC music services resources useful; there are a bunch of apps written by Abraham Lee, and the one called PDF - BatchStitch does just that. https://www.nycmusicservices.com/musicresources/ To add page numbers, I have used jPdf Tweak - Swiss A...

Re: Is it possible to edit Speedy keyboard commands?
There used to be an app called FinaleTweak that took care of that. Maybe it is still out there to find, still working with recent versions of Finale.
