Re: 35th anniversary sale
Personally, I wouldn't mind MM raising the price of Finale if they did something about all the flaws in it. Lowering the price, for whatever nationality, gives me a bad feeling.

FWIW here's how it would work with two expressions that break a MMR:

Re: org point articulation on rest does not appear
Yes, I think we had a discussion about the double MM breaking before. Possibly it was me who suggested that measure attribute. And that it shouldn't be invisible, just hidden (greyed out), for the reason you mentioned. Maybe your script method is more practical - for those who like working with scri...

Re: org point articulation on rest does not appear
The LUA script seems brilliant. But you are not quite right about expressions not breaking MM rests. You might put them in a category, fx. Tempo Alterations, which allows breaking MMR. (For some strange reason tempo marks are preset to do this, but not tempo alterations. Never mind, you just have to...

Re: org point articulation on rest does not appear
Or, you might create the fermata as an expression which is independent of the content in the measure.
Do you need it for just one staff, or all staves?

Re: Problem with Beam Stubs
Interesting problem! Personally I would prefer one of these: Beam stubs alt.JPG because both are clearer in that the beaming doesn't combine divisions by 16ths and 32nds. (The time signature is 4/8, so no problem with the broken beam between the first and second eighth.) My favourite is perhaps B be...

Re: Triplet notation for quarter-eighth
The JW plug-in is just brilliant, and probably motet's advice is the best one for you in the situation you describe, Capricorn. It works for sixteenth, eighth, and quarter triplets. Would you need a lot of other kinds of tuplets, you could program a metatool for that. Here's from the manual: Tuplet ...

Re: Slur direction in updated file
Settings tried so far: ... Right click > unlink in all parts Smart shape menu > Slur contour > reset Smart shape menu > Smart slur options > reset (nothing else really applies) (Personally, I would rather use relink in all parts to have the same look in score and part.) The culprit is found in the ...

Re: imploding music changes note values
If I understand you, you want to keep the rests as in the second staff of your first example? I think the rests in the first staff is more correct.

Re: Contra Bass or Double Bass?
There seems to be disagreement about that very question. According to Wikipedia: The names contrabass and double bass refer to the instrument's range and use one octave lower than the cello (i.e. doubling on cello). Quoting an old forum post from ten years ago, posted by forum user Epilogue: … When...

Re: move grace notes to trilled note
This is the way I do it: In Speedy Entry, insert the trill note with a lesser value to allow for the nachschlag notes as 16ths. Change the 16ths to grace notes with ; and then give the trill note its proper value. Finale has no problem placing the notes correctly.

Are the cautionary accidentals only affected by this loss? If not, it couldn't be a font issue.

Re: Text Size Problem
What I could think of is that it has to do with staff systems reduction and a page-attached text block. In the following example the staff systems are reduced to 85% (Page Layout menu). The Finale lyrics automatically are reduced with the same amount. When copied into a measure-attached text block t...

One way of creating what is seen in your example is using a Shape Expression for the staff lines and a Text Expression for the clef, and working a little with sizes to have them match.

Re: Rests in compound meter
Thanks N Grossingink! I agree completely. For some reason the second part of your example seems even worse than my B. Maybe it's because it's mixing apples with pears (Swedish expression, sorry). Sixteenths and eights both are "flag notes", and quarters are not. And, if extended beams are important,...

Rests in compound meter
I had a discussion with a client who asked for the traditional sixteenth rests in A to be combined into eighth rests as in B: Combined rests 1.JPG Now, what he actually requested was the above B with extended beams, wich certainly makes the rhythm clearer than without: Combined rests 2.JPG In my eye...

Re: graphics disappearing
We had a discussion in another thread about exporting and reimporting graphics in Finale. Using (any format in) Finale's Graphics tool the images are distorted when reimported because vector graphics for some obscure MM reason are changed into bitmapped ones. Resulting in blurry and totally useless ...

What if Finale et al offered a choice between 'general mode' (meaning average user's mode) and 'special mode' (or 'pro mode')? I'm nothing like a programmer, but I wouldn't think this is unfeasible if you want to reach both customer categories. What would the difference be? Pros and amateurs should...

Re: How to create multimeasures rests out of bars that have entries?
I tried that once, long time ago. Later, when I decided to revisit the work and revise it, everything became double work. That's why chose not to go that way from then on. You are quite right of course, htoker. Probably the double scores is a safer method when engraving music by others. Admittedly ...

Re: How to create multimeasures rests out of bars that have entries?
My approach for Flute 1 and Flute 2 (say) is to write separate staves for each part... This is much more straight-forward and less time-consuming in the end than starting with a single staff and then trying to tease it apart, which as you're finding can be problematic. FWIW some of us, when ready w...
