This is what I am trying to do. The notes are still not beamed, and it is not recognizing the eighth rest in layer one.

I have an occurrence of cross-staff notation with eighth notes. The first note is on the bass staff, (second half of the first beat in the measure) followed by four eighth notes on the treble staff.
