Q. Is it possible to upgrade from Finale 2007 to the latest issue?

$99 sale. BUT ONLY IN THE US! It's about £350 over here in the UK.

I have Finale 2007. Is it worth buying the latest version and if so, why?

Because switching the layers back and forth is very tedious. (I think that I must be doing it the hard/long way).

If you're trying to do what you posted in "what are the rests for?", then you need to use layers.

Yes, that post showed problem.

As long as Check for Extra Notes is off, you can cram as many notes or rests as you want in a measure.

I do have Extra Notes off yet it still reverts to the layers. Maybe I have something else ticked that I shouldn't have?

I have discovered that when I tap the touchpad 3 times with alternate two fingers the red 8va remains and produces the red dotted-line and all is well - this doesn't happen every time, but it is more successful than any of the other methods that I have tried so I think I'll leave it at that for now....

Regarding the vanishing 8va: the touchpad works okay when entering notes, measures, etc. but falters with the Smart Shape 8va. Is there some way of isolating this particular function via Finale and reinstalling just this section?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I removed Finale, rebooted the pc removed and reinstalled Finale. I borrowed my wife's mouse and hey presto! the red line shows and stays okay, but not with my touchpad. When I finger-tap twice and hold (in all sensitivity-settings), the red 8va sign flashes brief...

The 'dotted line' is black and '8va' doesn't show nor does the 'hooked end'

When I select '8va' and hold down on the double-click; the dotted line appears and extends ok as I slide it to the right, but it vanishes when I release the 'hold-down' leaving nothing. Help please. Thank you.

Finale 2007, Windows10. Is there a way to enter extra rests etc. into a note-full-measure in layer-1 without having to use layer-2?

Please will someone tell me the purpose of the rests in the attached piece of waltz music by Weber (Invitation to the Dance)- it can be played okay without the rests, so why are they there? (I know that this goes back to basics but I am getting old!). Thank you.
