Re: Chord symbol playback register
Thanks for the idea. Sounds like a hidden staff would be more expedient. Or I can add a staff a link parts for the lead sheet.

Re: Chord symbol playback register
You may not like the way Finale "Voices" Chord Symbols, esp if there are added notes or Chord Extentions. You might better off musically if you make a separate staff for your own voicings. It's not the voicing, it's that Finale plays the chords about one or two octaves higher than I would like. Tho...

Chord symbol playback register
Is there any way change the octave Finale plays chord symbols on something like a jazz lead sheet? I'm not using fretboards so changing those settings does nothing. I want playback just to assess my writing, so I'd rather avoid the extra steps of adding a hidden layer or staff of written out chords ...

Re: Font garbage mystery
All of that was quite clear before I made my suggestion. You questioned it but did you try it? I tried it. It didn't work. Some other bug is at work. Once the Chinese characters appear, I can't even change them to Arial or Helvetica or any other font of any kind. They are "stuck" for whatever reaso...

Re: Font garbage mystery
Sean, did you see this? Maybe look at the font setting in Document options/Fonts/Text/Text block. It shouldn't happen that extracting changes text, but if that's set to the Chinese font, perhaps it's reapply that setting when extracting. Just stabbing in the dark here. Finale has always had font is...

Re: Font garbage mystery
But why would two files using the exact same font have different results?

Re: Font garbage mystery
One more note, after further checking the original files were created in Finale 2010. Still doesn't explain anything to me, other that Finale has always had weird random gremlins.

Re: Font garbage mystery
You need to know what that font is and have it properly installed in your system. I do have it properly installed. One Finale file worked fine, the other didn't. I don't think I was clear enough that these are two files (both mine), not one file - my version and someone else's. And as I said, a cop...

Font garbage mystery
I have in the images attached two titles for a client's song. Same font, one file extracted from the other. Originally created in Finale 2012, I'm converting to F25. One looks fine, the other is gobbledygook. I did try to copy/paste the title from the good one, and that did fix it, but I'd like to k...

Re: Finale's Missing Character Display
If you want to do a clean reinstall of your Finale fonts, this will take a few minutes but it's worth it. Using the above list as a guide, open Font Book.app and delete every Finale font. It will take a few minutes after you delete till they disappear -- no need to wait, you can keep going to the n...

Re: Finale's Missing Character Display
Switching to MMs font, or any other font, is not an option. This in-house font is part of the look of this client's products.

Re: Finale's Missing Character Display
Yes, this is an in-house font. It's along story, but briefly, the appearance of certain things was never right according to the people in charge, so some of the time sigs are expressions, some are within the font like they are in Maestro. 4/4, 6/8 are there, but not 2/4 and 3/4. It's not worth knowi...

Re: Finale's Missing Character Display
Since it looks like a workaround will be the fix rather than an actual function or setting I'm not seeing, I'm willing to try all the tricks.

Finale's Missing Character Display
Does anyone know how to make Finale 25 not show the big question marks in boxes as shown on the attached image. I have a client I'm trying to upgrade from Finale 2012 to Finale 25. Because of some quirks of the in-house font, which I don't think can be fixed without great expense, some notation thin...

Although I don't use it often I have had nothing but trouble with importing EPS images into 2006. I use EPS because I need a clear background. It would be nice to tune up these import issues
