Re: Mixed Time Signature

Which layout is least likely to trip a player up in rehearsal? Yes, very good advice. I'm going with 7/4 with the (3+4 sempre) indication above, as you suggested. I found this in my library which confirms your suggestion. I think this is the best way to do it. Thanks Peter Serenade (Bourgeois) - 02...

Re: Mixed Time Signature

Thanks Peter, I did get that and I'm sorry I wasn't clear.

What I meant was is there any difference in usage - i.e. when would you use one or the other depending on the circumstances, or do they have identical meaning and it's a personal preference?

Re: Mixed Time Signature

Thanks for the replies. I did indeed make a silly mistake! I edited my post to add the 3/4 + 4/4 part but I should have deleted the 3/7 and 4/7. For the purpose of music spacing my inclination is to separate the 7 beats into two bars with a dashed or dotted barline in between. Using an expres...

Mixed Time Signature

Hi, I've searched the forum using "Mixed Time" but nothing came up. Maybe I'm using wrong terminology. I've been asked to prepare the solo part from the piano score of "Andante et Scherzo" for Trumpet in C by Henri Busser. The Scherzo is in 7/4, with dotted barlines indicating the division between 3...

Re: Staff Styles in Layers

Thankyou Michel, that's the answer. Another cludge! :D

In this case the symbols represent 4 bars of cued notes (trilling semiquavers) and when shown normally they make it difficult to read the rest of the notes in each bar, even though they are at 75%.

Re: Staff Styles in Layers

OK I found it, sorry. But the next question is how do I position the 1-bar repeat sign higher, on or above the staff, similar to the way rests are repositioned? At present the repeat sign is in the normal place, blocking the notes in Layer 2.

Staff Styles in Layers

Using F26, is there a way to apply a staff style to only one layer? I want to have 1-bar repeat signs in layer 1 and normal notation in layer 2. Thanks

Two systems on same line

It's many years since I had to do this. I seem to remember using one of the two handles at the end of the system, but now it seems there's only one, and it doesn't do what I need.

How do you position two systems on the same line in F26?

Thanks
Peter

Re: Help with Hidden Staves please

Thankyou. I did wonder about that. I'm not really familiar with publishers' ways of doing things.

I found a workaround to do what I described but, as you say, it's better to leave out the staff names altogether, so that's what I've done. Job finished!

Help with Hidden Staves please

I'm producing a piano reduction (with soloist) of the Leopold Mozart Trumpet concerto. The soloist enters in bar 22, so I've hidden the trumpet staff in the first 5 systems. The Piano Group name is shown before the first bar but I don't know how or where to put the full name of the solo part. If I c...

sfp

In a score I'm working on, one staff has an accented semibreve with sfp expression and a crescendo in the following bar . For all its wonders, human playback doesn't seem to understand how a human player would interpret it. The note sounds for the whole bar at its accented volume. If there's a cresc...

Re: gaming the system

Finale is far from feature-complete. It remains the only major software app that does not do collision avoidance (Ok, slurs and artics...) The thing I like best about Finale is that [almost] everything is capable of being customised if you know where to look, unlike many other programs which assume...

Re: Tempo Changes Gradually From 109 to 120 - WHY ?

Sounds like a HP setting. Sometimes unchecking just one item fixes things. Could be "Interpret Harmonic Cadences" Possibly "Automatic Expression". Sorry we couldn't be of more help. Zuill HP certainly does have weird issues at times. I have a file, originally created in ver2005, where the playback ...

Re: Override "Consolidate rests across layers"

The "busy at present to spare time on it" is the best reason to d/l it and use it. There is an almost no learning curve for JW Change. It puts most of the things in one menu. Just some clicks away. Thanks. I've downloaded it and hopefully I'll install and investigate it later. I do take your point,...

Re: Override "Consolidate rests across layers"

Thankyou! I don't understand where to "uncheck Combine rests" but with your help I found one has to position the speedy cursor over the rests and hit letter S. The rests split when you exit the frame. I haven't looked closely at Jari's plugins yet. It's only now that I'm using an up-to-date version ...

Override "Consolidate rests across layers"

In ver 26.3 there is a very useful setting I've discovered which will superimpose rests of similar value in different layers vertically. It's in Document Options>Layers>Consolidate rests across layers checkbox. I must say this is a great time-saver! I'm writing a standard drum part where I'm using t...

Re: "Solo" vs. "player?"

The pops could be a characteristic of the sample rate in Finale not being synced with the sample rate of your hardware. I don't know how to advise you about your particular hardware, but you should be able to find the sample rate in your computer's sound settings. In Finale, go to MIDI/Audio>Device ...

After you apply the dynamic, right click the handle and select Edit Expression Assignment. There is a place to assign the playback affect to a particular layer. That should work. It does for me.

Zuill
That's done the trick. Many thanks.

Layer playback

In my previous version (2005) I could set different dynamics for layers 1 & 2 on the same staff and, as long as each layer was using a separate MIDI channel, this would playback as expected. Now, in v.26, because expressions are not allocated to particular layers, the dynamics affect all layers. Is ...

Stem length on beamed notes

Something that's always bugged me with Finale since v3.0. The stems of beamed notes (not flags) are too long for my liking. Usually I can live it, but there often places where I need to shorten the stem with the beam angle tool, which takes ages. I can of course change stem lengths in Document optio...

Now that you are using v26, you might want to add that to your profile, so that, should you need help here, those offering help will know which version you are using. I list all the versions I currently have installed.
Done! Many thanks to everyone who helped. :)
