Re: measure repeat signs for chords

rick wrote:one bar repeat sign above the staff
I usually do this creating the one bar repeat also as a text expression. Then you can easily place it anywhere on your staff.
(Save that text expression library and load it in your templates).

..the MIDI metronome. Even though I have "always" selected for click playback it only clicks in record. Any thoughts? I am using an outboard drum machine for click and it works fine in record. Re: MIDI won't update

I am using 2003 on an os9 mac with an MOTU serial interface and have a problem with the MIDI playback. Sometimes it won't update changes for playback. I keep hearing the old part before correction. Saving or command backslashing doesn't help. Closing the file and reopening it doesn't help but if I ...

Re: MIDI Program change in Finale/change instruments

Use Text Expressions, they can be defined to have a effect on playback: - Create a text expression ("flute", "alto sax", "patch 33", whatever). - In the"Text Expression Designer" window : Click on "Show Playback options" to see more options - Playback Options > Type > Patch - Define your patch. - Th...

Re: Importing from Mac to PC - Finale 2004

I have not been able to import/open files created on a Mac (Finale 2004) on a PC (Fnale 2004). Keeps saying Invalid File Type. A remark : most of the time, double clicking on the file won't work to open it. Launch Finale first, and then in the File menu, use open. Then save the file, it will later ...

Re: Chord symbols & note resizing

I tried to reduce the size of some notes in a piano part using Mass Edit/Change/Note Size. The notes in question have chord symbols attached to them and unfortunately their size is affected as well. Is there a way to resize notes in a region independently of the chord symbols? Another little idea :...

Is there a way to disable Finale's playback feature that attempts to use dynamics placed in the score? ... just a clean playback following the score would be most helpful. Re: font sizes for lyrics

I was messing with the change notesize feature and decided I like how my music looks and prints out at 90%, but that reduction also reduces the size of the lyrics font. How can I work around that to keep the lyrics at their original font size? Options Menu Documents Options Fonts Lyrics Verse, etc ...

Re: Files

In Finale versions before Finale 2004 there is only one way: Save as a MIDI file, and use third party software to create an mp3 file from the MIDI file. Or, staying in the audio environment, not using the MIDI file conversion : (the procedure is a bit heavier, but the copy will be faithful to the o...

Re: simple barline question using Measure Tool

My lead sheet has a pickup and it's in there and working, but I can't use the Measure Attributes panel or the Measure Tool to get the first complete bar to have double bar lines at the start of the tune.. This is usually done with the measure tool. Double-click the square handle at the end of the m...

There is an alternative approach which might be useful in some instances: instead of increasing the number of MIDI channels, use staff styles, or define playback espressions to obtain some effects. Since impossible for the same instrument to play with a cup mute and a plunger mute at the same time,...

Need more than 16 midi channels

Thanks a lot. Does anyone have experience of midi via firewire (on the Mac) ? Yes, you would use the printer port for an additional 16 MIDI channels. No, there is no way around using your printer port for achieving 32 channels. Just use the B port on the MIDI interface. Need more than 16 midi channels

For big band scores, I would like to be able to define more than 16 instruments (considering the doublings etc...). A trumpet section often needs to be divided and each staff should be able to use different sounds : open, tin mute, cup mute, flugelhorn, etc Trombones : open, muted... Saxes : sop, al...

Re: Finale not recognizing the font installation?

Whenever I start up a new composition in Finale '03, and start to write something, the notes show up as œ's and the likes with j's for tails and other strange stuff. I figure it's a font problem, but I've tried going into the options and messing around, but nothing seems to work. Indeed, that's typ...

Re: Unwanted Playback of Figured Bass Library (chord suffixe

I recently loaded the Figured Bass Library in 2002 and it seems to be generating its own playback voicings (similar) to the way chord labels do. Is there any way to turn off the playback of these inserts? If I understand you correctly, you don't want to hear the chords you have created during playb...
