I had no trouble at all doing that. I entered the C above the staff, and used SHIFT+up arrow to jump it an octave.

What's going wrong when you try it?

How high do you want the note? You might just move the two staves farther apart. Or, enter the note down in the bass clef, and use the up arrow to raise it to your pitch.

Thanks for the education, Peter. My knowledge of percussion is rudimentary, at best.

Since it's percussion, I think it's channel 10.

Yes, I mean copy/append.
But keep your individual files, too!

Combine the scores into one big file. In newer versions of Finale, there is a utility called Score Merger, but I don't think your older Allegro has that.

Since Finale is primarily notation software, I doubt that they would add anything else.

Re: Finale Allegor Lyrics

Thanks for the info. My SATB are on separate staves with mostly one voice on each stave but occasionally more. I did what you suggest and I can now get lyrics on other staves as you suggest. The only comment I have is that you seem to have to start a word on a note - you can't start on an empty bar...

I am trying to recreate other people's music, so how exactly would I go about creating the "x" before a note? I messed around with it and I changed a double sharped C into a D by pressing "9", but when I pressed "9" again, it changed it to a double flatted E. I'm guessing there is another key to mo...

How is your score set up? Is it SA/TB? Are S & A, and T & B in different layers? (I use 1 and 2 for each staff.) If so, switch to the layer of the second lyric part. You should then be able to assign lyrics to that voice. Also remember to keep track of the Verse assignment, in Lyrics>Specify Current...

Simple menu>Playback notes on entry

You may have accidentally turned it off when you went to do something else in the menu, or maybe you loaded someone else's document, who had it turned off.

Please do the tutorials. Layers are one of the most basic tools in Finale. You will save yourself a lot of frustration and wasted time if you learn the rudiments of the program, before diving in.

Yes; File>Export to Audio File.

If this isn't working correctly, try restarting your computer. If you still have a problem, is it all files, or one particular file?

You can use the expression tool, and create new tempo marks for the beginning and end of the measure. The rit. probably won't do much over just one measure.

Not as far as I know. An annotation feature would be a very convenient thing, both for the purpose you mention, and (not printing) as a flag to mark something that needs checking at a later time.

Michelp is correct. Have both docs open, and then you can copy and paste the music from the piano staves over, or, simply, drag it.

Nothing to import. Just open PrintMusic, and open the file.
IMPORTANT: The version of PM must be the same, or newer, than the version of NotePad. This is true across the entire Finale line.

Tom,
Thanks for taking the optimistic view!
You reminded me of something else PM can't do, though: cross staff beaming, occasionally useful for the accompaniments.

I guess it depends on your needs. PrintMusic cannot: Make mid-measure time, key, or clef changes. Use more than one font in lyrics. Remap the percussion maps. Handle complicated coda/multiple repeat playback. Change noteheads (to an X, for example.) Let you set one time signature, but display anothe...

Check the Instrument List. Are the violins on a different channel than the timpani? (They should be.) Are they muted?
