One quarter tone
Youssef, You ask "How can I have a standard sharp raising a 1/2-tone file?" I think that you misunderstand me. I wrote "a standard sharp raising a 1/2-tone". It's not a special file. A standard sharp raises the pitch a 1/2-tone. You can have a standard sharp in any Finale file. To put a standard sha...

One quarter tone
Since you right-click, I suppose that you are using Finale for Windows. In this example, let's say that you have a standard sharp raising a 1/2-tone, and you want to change that sharp to a 1/4-tone sharp. 1. Switch to Special Tools Tool. 2. (Left-)Click the Accidental Mover Tool. 3. (Left-)Click the...

If it's only one quarter-tone, you might just as well enter a standard accidental and edit it: Switch to Special Tools Tool. Click the Accidental Mover Tool. When you click in the staff, you will get a handle on every accidental in that measure. Context-click (Windows: right-click ; Macintosh: ctrl-...

1/4-tones
The online pdf manual has a suggestion for quartertone accidentals. The list in the online pdf manual displays 1/4-tone accidentals in the font Tamburo. Here is a suggestion for 1/4-tone accidentals in the font Maestro Percussion (compare with the list in my first posting!): Alter Amount: 0 ; Charac...

Quarter tones, how can I get them??
Yes, Finale can do quartertones. I suppose that your problem is the layout, not the playback. There are step by step instructions below. Come back here, if you are having problems with the playback (the playback depends on your playback device). How to set up a quartertone key signature. Key Signatu...

In Finale versions before Finale 2004 there is only one way:
Save as a MIDI file, and use third party software to create an mp3 file from the MIDI file.
In Finale 2004 you can also save as a .wav file, and then use third party software to create an mp3 file from the .wav file.

Your question is a bit unclear. Please explain what you are trying to do. Finale can export as MIDI (.mid format), thus enabling MIDI instruments to play the notes. This is done from the File menu. Finale can export the visual as a graphic, either the entire page(s), or a selected area. Several grah...

Re: Mac user prefers separation of Mac and Windows
The new forum is more attractive and seems to respond faster. I agree. I miss the ability to explode topic threads, and the frames format that allowed viewing of threads and open messages simultaneously. Viewing open messages and threads simultaneously sounds like a good idea, I prefer that Mac hav...

I may misunderstand you, but it seems to me that Finale already has what you are asking for: Chord Tool. Chord menu - One-Staff Analysis or Chord menu - Two-Staff Analysis When one of these two analysis modes is selected, a click on a note will make Finale analyze your four-part chord and place the ...

Bells Used Chart
I can think of at least two other ways to do this: 1) Use the Resize tool to make the first system smaller (if desired), then use the Page Layout tool to center this system at the top of the page. 2) Create a Finale file of only one measure with the appropriate number of beats and not displaying a t...

Re: Respacing staves in selected systems
Switch to Page View, and switch to Staff Tool.
If you have optimized, you should see TWO handles on each optimized staff. Dragging the upper handle will move the staff in all systems. Dragging the lower handle will move the staff in that system only.

floross, There is one thing more to check, since you are using Finale 2003: You are working with piano(-double)staves. This means that the two staves are connected as a staff group with a curved bracket. Check out the group attributes for the piano staff group. In Finale 2003 the Group Attributes di...

In the Finale manual this is called cross staff notes. You create cross staff notes with the Note Mover Tool: 1. Enter all the notes in one staff. This staff is called the original staff. 2. Switch to Note Mover Tool. 3. Note Mover menu - Cross Staff 4. Click the original staff. Handles appear on th...
