Re: Cross-staff rolled chords with multiple layers
Soli, I have found inconsistent playback of rolled chords in different scores. Two thoughts. 1. It may have something to do with which staff the roll originates on. Did you apply it on the top staff and drag it down or vice versa? 2. A roll that starts on the first measure of a piece has no leading ...

I would worry about it, as it affects the correct look of a score.

Re: Solo Instrument Playback
To toggle mute and unmute for all the instruments, press the M above the Mute column in the Score Manager. Ditto with the S in the Solo column.
I find it easier to solo the instruments I do want to play than to mute the ones I don't want.
Cheers,
Jer

It sounds like you might have the instrument set to transpose in the Score Manager.

Re: Minor question about major 7
It's optional.
∆9 (my preference)
Major9, major9
Maj9, maj9
M9
Definitely not maj7(add 9). That's unnecessarily long, and in the above examples 9 implies the 7.
Cheers,
Jer

Re: Need help with naming diminished 7th chords
I'm very late to this party, but I was browsing and want to correct something.
A dim7 chord is incredibly flexible, and can resolve either up or down, depending upon the context.
This is a common progression in traditional standards: Em7 Ebo7 Dm7 G7 C6.
As well as: C6 C#o7 Dm7 G7 C6.
Cheers,
Jer

Re: Replace Old Library in Document
Thanks, Miker.
I've been doing the latter: Saving the altered library, loading into the other documents, transferring the contents to each of the categories in the default libraries, and then deleting the empty new categories.
Cheers,
Jer

Replace Old Library in Document
I've modified the dynamic expressions in a music document and saved them to the Expressions Library in the Maestro font. When I open that library in a new document, instead of replacing the existing default library it adds all the expression categories to the end of the list of default expressions. ...

Does Finale accumulate backup files forever?
Is there a way to automatically delete backup files after a certain time period, or does one have to go into the folder and delete them manually?

motet,
That dialogue box does not function properly. It has no effect on playback of the individual layers.
I've notified MakeMusic of this to no avail.

Re: Change instrument mid score.
The problem with using the Utilities Menu for Change Instrument is that you then have to create a separate Text Expression to put in the score. I just create a Text Expression and in Playback I assign the channel that the new instrument is on. One step. Using different layers of the same staff doesn...

Garritan Harp Problems
I know how to notate for harp in order to achieve proper playback. My problem is that playback is inconsistent. In an orchestral score some of the harp notations play back correctly and others don't. It seems to be either a context or a corrupt measure issue. In some measures the harp will not play ...

Re: Two glissando questions
Okay, problem #1 solved. The default on glissandos for some reason is to hold the first note for its full duration and then initiate the gliss for the duration of the second note. Stupid default, but easy to fix. Go to Human Playback, either from HP Preferences in the Playback Controls pallet or fro...

I have the same problem. The glis doesn't start until the first note plays all the way through. I don't want to have to create a new expression each glis in my score.

Default Whole Rests and Chords
Chords must be attached to notes and real rests. When one tries to create or copy a chord to a Default Whole Rest, Finale does nothing. The program should assume that you know what you're doing, automatically convert the Default Whole Rest to a Real Whole Rest, and allow the chord to be entered. Whe...

Many thanks, Peter, for your suggestions. I'm fairly certain that Noteworthy cannot export to musicXML files. However, your alternative seems to me rather long winded. Is there no simple way using MIDI files. Some years back, I was able to export to and import from Personal Composer using MIDI file...

My apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I really need to know the answer to this as soon as possible.
