Thanks Zuill and Peter,
I've incorporated your suggestions and got it to look the way I wanted it. I get a little nervous having rests floating around off the page somewhere, but I guess it's no worse than all of the items I have to pull off the page to get linked parts to work.

Re: Opposite stemming within beam groups
I should add that even if I change the hidden notes to rests and select "extend secondary beams over rests" as soon as I hide the rest the beam breaks again.

Opposite stemming within beam groups
I am trying to reproduce the notation of the measure shown in the first example. I thought that the easiest way would be to notate all the notes in both layers 1 and 2 and then just hide every other note in each group. Conceptually this worked, but it had the side effect of breaking the 16th beams a...

Re: One question - One request
Thanks Peter. That indeed fixes it for me. Haven't others been saying, though, that "Automatic Update Layout" should be left on for other reasons?

Re: One question - One request
Peter, Are you saying that you do not experience the behavior described by the OP? This "dirty on open" behavior has bothered me for many years, so if there is a known a fix, or you at least can confirm that you are not experiencing it such that there is hope that some combination of settings might ...

Lyric bug?
Can anyone confirm for me what seems to be a bug in the lyrics window? If I select the text and go to Text->Size->Other... and type in a value, nothing changes. So if, for instance, I want to set the font size to 16, I have to select 14 from the drop down list, and then select Text->Size->Increase t...

Old (or just odd?) notation
In some of the stile antico movements of this little-known work, Bach has got some sort of proportio dupla thing going on where the full measure comprises a breve, but he also provides little half-size barlines at the semibreve level (see attachment). I thought that I might be able to finesse Finale...

Re: HP 5200 Printer?
None of the 5000 Series printers (5000, 5100, 5200) have Bonjour, so they won't be plug and play. They work fine when set up via IP instead of Bonjour, though.

Perhaps it only adds it if linked parts have been created for the file?

Re: JW Plugins Issue in Finale 25
"A quicker way to test might be to install half of the plugins. If no problem, then install half of the remaining, I think you see where this is going. Just fewer steps." This is generally true if there is a single cause for the problem. If, as it turned out here, there are two independent issues ca...

Applying house style to "foreign" files
I'm about to begin a project where I will be working with 32 medium-sized files created by someone else. Much will need to be changed to get them into our house style and I would like to query the collective wisdom here about the best way to go about this. I plan to set up a template with as many op...

You can also make precise numerical adjustments (so that, for instance, all the staves in one section are spaced exactly equidistantly) in scroll view using the Staff Tool under "Staff Usage..." Then back in Page View you can select "Respace Staves..." (still in the Staff Tool) and select "Set to Sc...

Re: Eszett
To expand on Peter's answer somewhat. Following the German Rechtschreibreform from 1996, the use of ß in German became somewhat more restricted, to be used only following long, stressed vowels and dipthongs. Thus, the two examples from the OP, "Zeitmaß" and "Mäßig" retain the ß because the preceding...

Shouldn't the footnote read: "to prevent the score from becoming unnecessarily complex..." ?

I guess since it's been asked at least twice and nobody has answered, that there's not a list anywhere that officially explains what the various icons mean? They're certainly not obvious to me.
