re-registration blues

I am a registered user (joined May 20, 2004). Recently I entered my username (rick) and got the message that my username was already taken. So, I entered "rickk" and got in, but now I'm only 'guest' status. I tried re-registering only to get the same message. I would like to return to my original status and username. How do I do this?
