You would need to go (at least) to Songwriter2010 for both.
What version of NotePad are you using? Be aware that any work done in NP2011 will not open in SW2010. This is true across the entire Finale line: You can't go backwards.

No. Get SW2010. If you just got NotePad yesterday, it's unlikely that you have lots of files to deal with.
If you do have anything you don't want to lose or redo, export it from NP as an XML, and import it into SW the same way.

My suggestion would be to get SW2010, now. In 2011, they made changes to PrintMusic (supposedly a step above SongWriter) that actually downgraded the product. If they do the same with a new version of SW, you may lose features that are currently available.
