I bought PrintMusic in 2008, and a few years later when my daughter married, and I bought it for her, too.
We want to write music together, so we want to email the MUS files between us or work from Dropbox.
Finale unfortunately does not allow this (opening files in different versions of Finale PrintMusic), as far as we can see, so my daughter exports to XML, and I import the XML file.
Recently this is also not possible, and Finale gives me a message that the file I'm trying to import is not in XML form (although it is).

How can we share. Is there a way to save in simpler form (like Word .doc vs. .docx)?
Any other way to share between versions?

I can not explain why MusicXML files do not work - they are supposed to work.

You could try the free program Finale NotePad.
If you both get the same version year of NotePad, you can exchange documents directly, without the need for translation.
However, NotePad’s layout capabilities are very limited.

As another option, try MIDI files.
Unfortunately MIDI files will only transfer the music (= playback), not the layout.
To exchange the layout, try PDF files.

Do the recalcitrent files have an .XML suffix? If not, you might try adding it to the name.

Also, if both of you were to get PM 2014, all would be well!
