Hi,
With the kids away at uni, I finally have time to try an learn a bit more and have blown the dust off Eric Taylor's Theory book Part 2. I have Printmusic 2008 and thought it would be great to type in some examples from the book and mess around with them, so finally 'hearing' the differences between italian, french and german sixths, experiment with chord progressions etc instead of reading about them.

I want to keep things as simple as possible, so can anyone recommend the easiest way to just insert the stave I want (single or piano), write notes underneath, insert another stave etc? Basically, a bit like a music theory book where you can hear the music?

Many thanks,

Steve

From your description I am, not sure, exactly what your needs are.

Is layout important, I mean, is the layout just “for your eyes only”?

I suppose that you could do a lot by creating a piano Grand Staff document, and enter the music there.

With the Text Tool you can write notes underneath.
If the text block is entered from Scroll View, then it will automatically be measure/staff attached (not page attached).
This means that you can adjust the layout, and the text block will move with the notation (unlike a page attached text block which stays, where it is on the page).

Thanks Peter. Yes, for my own eyes only. (No James Bond copyright?)

I just want to have pages where I have staves where I can write/listen to/ change etc) with my notes written underneath. Nothing more than that.

Many thanks,

Steve

Then I suppose that a piano Grand Staff document will do.

Add as many measures to the document as needed, and enter the music.

Enter text blocks with your notes, as described in my previous post.

(I think that the copyright would be Ian Fleming copyright)

Thanks a lot Peter. It seems to work. I just need to experiment a bit more.

Yes, Ian Fleming was the author, but I doubt he would recognise the recent films. The original books were excellent. No special effects, just very good writing!
