Greetings:

I am doing a composition using Finale Printmusic (latest version), and have what might be a strange question:

There are some situations where you might be playing an instrument that you want to make a sound of a slightly smaller duration than a printed note. For example, a trumpet may play a quarter note, but it may play that note for slightly less than the duration of a quarter note in order for the musician to catch a breath. The result is a duration greater than an 8th note but slightly less than a quarter note.

Does PrintMusic have any functionality that allows the editing of a single note's duration for playback? Perhaps one can edit the MIDI events so that the note ends slightly sooner than the note's standard duration?

I have seen (and used) this functionality in some other notation software. Is this functionality available in PrintMusic?

Someone please advise.

I don't think so. I believe you would have to go to the full Finale for that. (But I could be wrong...)

Meanwhile, try a double-dotted eighth
