I have written a solo with piano accompaniment but want to change it to harp accompaniment. How do I change the piano designation to harp?

I assume that you want to change the name of the instrument and that the 2 staves are a group.
Staff tool, staff menu
Edit group attributes
Full group name -> Edit
Abr group name -> Edit

That won't work in PM.

Method one: Delete the bracket. That will delete the name, too. Staff tool>Add Bracket... Enter Harp as text inset.

Method two: Add a harp staff. Copy the music over. Delete the piano staff.

I just installed 2012...the rename option described above doesn't seem to exist. In addition to learning how to rename instruments in 2012 I would also like to know how I can set instrument names so they don't run off the page!

The example I am looking at is for Soprano Recorder. The name hangs off the page. In 2008 I would edit the name, and simply through a return at it to get:

Soprano
Recorder

Is there a better way to handle this? Oh yeah...and I would still like to be able to rename instruments.

Thanks!

Are you using PrintMusic or Finale? There is no PM2012.

In Finale 2012, the name is changed in the new Score Manager window.

In PM2011, I would do it with the text tool if it had to be on two lines.

In either case, you can gain space on the right by adjusting the system margin with the page layout tool.

Go to:
- Windows menu
- Select: Score Manager
- Select: Instrument list.
