I changed the Default Font before I started puting in lyrics, but they still appeared as the default Times Roman
Never mind, I thought - I'll do them all first and change the font later.
But I can't find a way...

Go to Document>Select Default Fonts... lyrics>Set font... and make your change. After you have backed out of the dialogue boxes, the font will change to the new one. (This is true from 2008 forward. Previously, you could not change existing fonts in the lyrics.)

No it doesn't. That doesn't happen at all.
I have just paid for and downloaded the very latest version today (2011a r1) - after years in which I have struggled with multiple problems with PrintMusic - and, as a result, held about the lowest opinion of this product of any software I have ever owned.
This is not changing my mind.
I repeat.
Default Font > Lyric was set to Arial BEFORE I input the lyrics.
I quit and reopened.
I input lyrics - they displayed as Times Roman.
I went into Default Font again. It still showed Arial.
I changed it again.
The lyrics still show Times Roman.

Yes, I am a moderator of this forum. But I have no connection at all to MakeMusic, before you unload on me.
I just tried it again in PM2011, and had no problems, either starting in Arial, or changing to it. Are you using Mac or Windows? I'm on Windows, so I wonder if it's maybe a Mac issue.
Have you contacted MM Tech Support?

Phew - I'm glad you said that!
I have had THE most tottering time of it with MM support - outright lies, right there in back and white on the page. One support guy says Black, and the other support guy says - no, he said White.
But this was a while ago. I've had to try the upgrade because I'm in a corner and it seemed the only way out.
Yes - I'm on a mac. I have the very latest machine (now), with the very latest OS, and the very latest version of PrintMusic - because the support guy who says Black is White promised me it would finally work.
It doesn't. Am I a klutz or what?

Why not try posting on the other finale forum http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?c=1 There is a special forum for Mac. Maybe somebody there will have more info.
Of course, Peter Thomsen (on this forum) is a true expert, one of the best, and a Mac user as well. I'm surprised he hasn't weighed in on this, yet.

But I'm not holding my breath!

I join your frustration TheOtherTom. This is just simply one more issue that contributes to Finale being the most frustrating piece of software I've every used in my life! Not only is the place where the change should be make very non-intuitive and buried in menus, but it doesn't work once you find it.

For the record, I too am using a Mac and I installed the latest Mac update. The problem occurs prior to and after installing the update.

Would you believe that Support are refusing to help unless I submit a separate support ticket for each question in my request? As all my questions relate to one problem, that's nonsense - how can one have a proper discussion of the problem if you have to separate it out into three or more threads?
All that's needed is a discussion.
As I feared, MakeMusic are not actually interested in helping customers, or improving their product - merely in persuading us to throw good money after bad in a vain attempt to resolve poor design issues of their making in a product we have bought in good faith.
I've never been so disappointed with an organisation. These guys are in a league of their own.

My name is Justin Phillips and I am the Notation Product Specialist for the support department at MakeMusic, Inc. We have conversed a few times on the official MakeMusic forum.
I understand your frustration about us asking you to submit seperate support cases for each issue. I know this can be a bit more time consuming for you. We do have some good reasons for doing this:
-Each issue can be separately tracked
We log each customer contact so we know exactly what our customers are contacting us about. This enables us to gauge what issues are most prevalent in our user base, and to have a better understanding of what our customers are contacting us about. In addition, this information is shared with our development and sales teams to create better products and identify the top customer concerns.
-Each issue can be dealt with without clutter
To ensure you are getting the best support, it is much easier for our agents and for you to have one issue being addressed at a time. This makes sure nothing is missed.
Even if multiple issues are presented in a case that do loosely relate to one another, we will request that they be split.
We are very interested in assisting our customers. I can assure you if you continue with our support system our agents will do their best to resolve the issues you seem to be having with your computer.
I reviewed the issues that you have contacted us about and they are separate issues from one another.
1) Issues changing lyric fonts:
I understand you and panther_city are encountering some issues regarding this. I checked through our system and we have had no other contacts since the release of PrintMusic 2011 regarding this. We have not been able to recreate this in house yet, however that does not mean something isn't going wrong somewhere. What is the exact, step by step, process you are taking to recreate this issue?
2) Problems with CoreMIDI.framework crashing/becoming non-responsive
Does this occur when closing PrintMusic 2006 or 2011? CoreMIDI.framework is what your OS uses to implement MIDI support in applications like PrintMusic. Do you have any Digidesign audio interfaces or MIDI devices?
3) Unable to locate the JPEG export function.
I understand that you are frustrated we placed the JPEG export function in the Graphics Tool and not in a Save or Export type menu in the File Menu. I will submit this as a feature request to our development team.
4) Issues with duplicated fonts
Has clearing the font cache or a removal then re-install of the PrintMusic fonts assisted with this as suggested?

Hello Justin
Thank you for posting a sensible reply. I'm not getting anything useful from the support team.
You say "we do have some good reasons for doing this" - note the word "we."
Good customer service/recovery is about designing systems that work well for "you" - meaning "us" aka the customers. Your system may be good for MakeMusic but it is difficult to operate, unfriendly and confusing for customers. Having to write between lines, having to log in, having to submit multiple tickets - these add up to a TERRIBLE customer interface. Add to this the fact that I have now had 5 emails from you since I purchased the upgrade (much against my better judgement) - and not one of them has offered any practical advice whatsoever. Incidentally I've been dealing with quite a few help teams during this transition - TomTom and ProSoft DataBack-up get 10 out of 10 - Apple gets 9, Avid gets 2 (though the users get 10) - others like Microsoft and Adobe in descending order. I've not been able to award you a single mark yet. If anything it's a minus.
We expect a normal, friendly dialogue with a human being - and systems have to be designed to give us what we expect. That's a fundamental. Other companies manage - why not MakeMusic?
1) Lyrics. I have (at last) been able to change the default font, and enter new lyrics into a new song in the correct font. But I still can't change those already entered - and it is clear from the note in the menu that I should be able to.
Step by step; 1) I open a file which has Times Roman lyrics in it. 2) I go to the default font menu, where the font has long since been changed to Arial. It still says Arial, but the lyrics are still in Times Roman. 3) I listlessly reselect Arial 12 for the umpteenth time and click ok. Yet again, nothing happens. (Oh and by the way every new song has to be reset before you start typing - that's poor programming - and sometimes it doesn't 'stick' and stays with Times Roman, but of course you don't find out until you start putting in lyrics - and then it's too late, you have Times Roman letters in there - and changing the setting to Arial again makes no difference).
2) I have now found a workround for the coreMIDI problem using ProTools - at least I hope I have. (I can't run 2006 - as I have explained. It barely worked on the Tiger Intel - constantly losing registration, unable to print plus other issues - and it will not fire up on 10.6.6 - hence why I had to throw good money after bad in order to rescue my songs - one of which was a piece written for a funeral).
3) I don't have any duplicated fonts. I have checked. I will try the suggested remedies tomorrow.
I have gone back to using Musescore for most of this show I'm writing now. It has one bug - it won't pick up triplets from a midi file, so for that, and that only, I'm having to use PM - but for everything else MuseScore is far far better - attractive, intuitive, sharp and free - and even though it's an open source project the support from the forum is top class.

I tried to recreate this again and have not been able to. When you upgraded to Snow Leopard, did you purchase a new computer, or did you upgrade your older mac from 10.4 directly to 10.6?TheOtherTom wrote:

This may be a Pro Tools/Avid issue. Try navigating to Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers. Is there a file named digidiomididriver.plugin ? If so, try moving it to your Desktop then relaunch the program.TheOtherTom wrote: 2) I have now found a workround for the coreMIDI problem using ProTools - at least I hope I have. Ok - I'm looking at a PrintMusic document here which is, at long last, correctly displaying 2/4 in the time signature - in which I've also changed the lyric font after input.
Many thanks for your help.

PS - though I now find that quite a few of my most common fonts have stopped working (been deleted?) - including Arial 12, so most of my documents are currently blank.
I still have a hill to climb.
You can see why I wish I'd never heard the word PrintMusic, can't you?

Tom,
I don't know why you're having such problems. I've been using PM for 7 years, and never had any issues like you.
I'm not saying that as a slam; my point is that many, many people are using the program without all of the grief you have.
Nothing that anyone has suggested would have removed your Arial font.

Ok - just to complete the story - I have now fixed the fonts.
It's possible that the problem was not in fact of PrintMusic's doing, though the fact that I had the problem in the first place certainly was - (font foul-ups have happened, I can now see, every time I've installed FM) - but it just goes to show what happens when a customer completely loses faith in a product and company - so I hope, Justin, that you might take a final look at all the dialogue between MM and me, (it's not easy as your system no longer shows it in chronological order) and you'll see why I became so convinced that MM were not worth doing business with. (I might add that there has been a long dialoge on a well-known musicians' forum which scores of composers took part in - I didn't start it btw, that compared the strengths and weaknesses of Sibelius and Finale, both products and service - and Sibelius won hands down with Finale coming in for some serious stick, which didn't help to convince me otherwise).
I'm away to get on with my folk opera now - many thanks to all here and on the other board, specially Miker and Wiggy (and you too Justin).
If you DO want to improve the GUI of PM, by chance, I advise taking a good look at MuseScore (I'm nothing to do with it, or its development btw). It's not perfect, but it's much easier to use out of the box - as indeed is Cubase Score.
Cheerio

I just got to this thread after trying to figure out how to change the lyric font after input.
This thread is from 2011 and I have Finale 2009 (Mac) here, which has the solution built in:
Plug-in menu/Miscellaneous/Change Fonts../Individually change lyrics
Sometimes I find I then need to click on one of the lyrics in the document to see a change, not always though..
I then go to document options and change the default lyric font
Seems to work..

I am on Windows7
The Finale version is 2014.0.3163
I had an experience to change language in lyrics before, it was Finale 2004 I guess, and it was so easy, as I had just to change the language on computer. But now it doesn't work. When I did so and began to type, the letters simply were not visible.
