Using an External Keyboard to Enter Notes

I have had Finale for over a year now but I hardly use it... its really non intuitive and I was hoping that the program was not as difficult to use as I heard prior to purchasing it but its worse than I expected. Anyway, I`m attempting to once again score a Mass Setting I composed which consists of piano/organ, soprano, alto, bass, solo violin, solo trumpet, and solo flute but right now I`d be happy if I could just record using the external piano. This is the issue...
I am able to enter MIDI data via my keyboard but the mass setting is in 6/8 time and Finale is giving me 4 beats per measure even though the signature is 6/8. Its impossible to record this way and very frustrating. Its most likely user error but unfortunately due to the non intuitive program Finale is, its not exactly easy to figure out what I`m doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.
Frustrated,
EB

Are you using Hyperscribe? If so, be aware that it requires almost robotic playing, and will not handle "just playing the piano."
You might want to consider step-time entry, with either simple or Speedy.

Thanks for the response, didn`t see it until today... the issue is that Finale is giving me 4 clicks per measure but the song is in 6/8. Is there a way to change this? I can`t imagine this be set into 4/4.

Post the document that you'r using, and we'll have a look at it. Before you can attach a .mus document here, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file. And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

Thanks so much for the visual!michelp wrote:Hyperscribe menu : Beat Source -> Playback or Click : select the eight note or the dotted quarter note.
I have Finale setup properly in the quantize settings so rhythms are being recorded properly in Hyperscribe. The issue is that Finale is not separating the left hand and right hand properly. Everything I play is being put into the treble clef but with the left hand using lots of leger lines. Obviously, I don`t have a setting where it needs to be... any direction is appreciated.

In the Hyperscribe menu : Record Mode -> Split into 2 Staves should be selected.
After the music has been entered, if corrections are needed, there is a plug-in that defines a Split Point (for a selected region).
