Dear All,
I know how to hide staff(s) for long rest periods in orchestral scores, but how to do this except the first page, so the conductor can see the required instruments?
Oh, and one thing off topic: could anyone tell me the correct term for requiring a string section to change bow alternatively during long notes?
Thanks!
Hide staffs, except the first page

1) In order to to give you the best possible help we need a little more info:RedOkra wrote:…I know how to hide staff(s) for long rest periods in orchestral scores, but how to do this except the first page, so the conductor can see the required instruments?…
What version of Finale are you using? - 2014? - 2012? - 2011? - 2010?
2) I am afraid I do not understand your question.
Is this a question about engraving practice?
There is nothing "wrong" in showing empty staves in the first system of the score.
Don't be afraid of showing empty staves at the beginning of the score.
That layout can be seen in many scores.
Or is this a question about, how to hide staves in Finale?
The actual steps are a little different in different Finale versions. We need to know your version.
Describe what you want to achieve; what you do when you try to achieve it; what happens; and what doesn't happen that you expected.

(1) I am using 2014.
(2) I see many printed orchestral scores at least show every instrument needed on the first page, no matter what parts are being hidden afterwards. I thought it is a good practice worth reproducing.
I know how to hide staffs, but I only want to hide them after the 1st page. I do not need any fancy print out either, just straight pdf export for the time being.
Thanks again!

If I understand you correctly, you can not hide staves in specific systems only.RedOkra wrote:…I know how to hide staffs, but I only want to hide them after the 1st page…
You can only hide staves for the entire document.
Right?
This is not normal.
Normally it is possible to hide staves exactly where you want it - and only there.
1) Do you have this problem in all documents - or only in one specific document?
2) What are your exact steps when you hide staves?
Perhaps you are doing something wrong.
3) Could you attach a (small) Finale .musx sample document that shows the problem?
This forum does not allow the file name extension .musx, but do not worry!
Just change the file name extension to .zip, and you can attach the file here in the forum.

Hello.
Just in case… a reminder of the method that should normally work :
Have you tried to select all pages except page 1 in Page View, and in the Staff Tool, Staff menu -> Hide Empty Staves ?
