hi there
well in fact i'm stucked here

here what i want to do
i want just to copy the part I the part below in the part above (II)
Image
so that the part above will have two voices

to do that i have to
1. Click the Selection Tool.
2. Highlight the region of measures that you wish to move to Layer 2.
3. From the Edit menu, choose Move/Copy Layers.
4. Set this window to Move the Contents of Layer 1 into Layer 2. Then click OK.
5. Set the Layer controls in the bottom left corner of your Finale window to Layer 2.
6. From the Document menu, choose Show Active Layer Only. All notes in other layers will disappear temporarily.
7. Using the Selection Tool, drag or copy/paste the highlighted region into the desired staff.

that's what i did several times but there was some problems and it wasn't good

now that i'm good and everything is set

when i want to do it

finale keeps telling me that

Image

and when i go with that
there is nothing to go on layer 1
Image

a,d in the end nothing happens

can you help me on that
i know it's a little tricky

It looks like you are doing it right. I'm not sure why you're getting that message.

If you have the full Finale, you can try another method.

After you move the source staff to layer 2, select both the source staff and the destination staff. Edit menu>Implode Music... I prefer to implode it into the top staff, but that's your choice. OK

After you have done this, you can delete the extra staff.

If you have the "full" Finale (at least 2010), you also can use the plug-in "JW Staff Polyphony" -> Staves -> Merge to Layers.
It is a great plug-in, it's fast and contains many other useful functions.
Look for the finaletips.nu site (add www to the URL).

thanks for the reply but when you say
after you move the source staff
: the problem is that i can't move the source staff since finale delete the source staff when i try to move it like i said before
so there is nothing left to move that's the reason why i posted this message
*thanks though

I used the JW plugin to merge two layers into one but it messed up my lyrics I had typed into the first half. I can't type new ones in as I go and I have yet to find a way to delete and redo to see if that fixes it. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

You can clear the lyrics with the selection tool>clear selected items>lyrics. This will remove them from the score, but they will still be in the lyric tool, in the correct verse.

You can click assign them back into the verse.

Make sure that those and any new lyrics are attached to the correct voice layer.
