Finale 2010 r.1 - Windows 7 Home

I have just started using Finale and am trying to write a piano continuo part using the notes given in each of the four choral voices but I can't find out how to change the value of one note with a chord. An example is where the Soprano line has four crochets in a particular bar but the Alto line has a dotted crochet, a quaver, and two crochets in the same bar. Each time I try to insert the dotted crochet it changes the Soprano crochet into a dotted crochet as well. I would appreciate your help.

Welcome to the Forum.

You do this with layers. This is a very basic function of Finale, and you need to learn how!

It's covered in both the quick-start videos and the tutorials.
