I am pairing down a four part horn score to just two - and I would like to mute a couple of the horns to hear what the other two sound like before making changes to the score. How can I do that? So far the only solution I have come up with is to completely delete the staff so it doesn't play. I would rather keep it - and just turn it off on playback. There doesn't seem to be any option in playback menu to turn them off. I hope it isn't as complicated as creating an expression? I have no idea what this is - but it came up in some searches.

Thanks!

If you're using 2012 or 2014, go to the Score Manager. You will see the instruments listed there. You can click in the M (mute) or S (solo) columns to get what you want.

If it's an earlier version, the same thing is available in Instrument List.

Please add the program and version you are using, to your signature in the control panel.

Thanks - I see the score manager - the list of instruments and the S and M buttons. However - nothing happens when I select the instrument and click on the M. Shouldn't I see something to indicate that it is muted? I got these files from someone else - which is why I don't know what I am doing! :?

Click in the M column next to the instrument. A small dot will indicate the instrument is muted.

You just have to hit the right spot!

Got it! Clearly just clicking the M would be too easy!

Thanks again!
