Greetings All,

Finale 2012
Mac

I've been adding some "bass" notes that vary in duration from the chord's treble notes - into Layer 2. But Finale naturally adds rests to these Layer 2 measures, and the rests interfere with the reading of the treble notes. How can I either turn off the display of individual rests, or simply move them down and out of the way of the treble clef? Others have mentioned hitting the "H" key (or "O") but that doesn't work for me.

Welcome to the forum.

What do you mean, it doesn't work for you? Is there no change at all, or do the rests get dimmer, but are still in the way? If the latter, you can change that in either of two places: (I'm working from memory, now, so forgive me if the details aren't quite correct!) In the Document menu, View> hidden notes and rests can be deselected. Also, in the Program Options (I think) you can set the degree of transparency as low as you like.

In any case, hidden notes won't print, even if they show on screen.

If I misunderstand the problem, please give us more details.

With Layer 2 selected, and a Layer 2 rest option-clicked (grey selection color surrounds the rest) - I then hit "H" on the keyboard - nothing happens. No dimming, disappearance, anything.

Display set to off:

Don't option click. Double-click on the rest. It will turn purple, as shown in the first shot. Then, H will hide it, as in the second, and it won't print. If you select not to view hidden rests, it will vanish completely on both screen and print. Personally, I like to keep them onscreen, so I don't forget them.

Thanks, Miker - that did the trick. Now I can print this out...
I don't mind being able to see the rests on screen - I agree it's good to know they are there.
