Finale 2014.5 / Mac

I insert lyrics, typing into the score.
I see a syllable that needs correcting or changing.
I change it (typing into the score).
Then, I discover that at least one other syllable has changed.
When I "fix" that one, it changes the other one (the syllable corrected in the first place).
It seems that they are somehow connected, but I can't figure out how.
Is there a way to "turn off" this connection?
Or is the changing lyric syllable some other kind of problem?

Try making the change in the lyric window, rather than in the score.

Dzzy88Fngrs,

From your description it is my guess that you at some point copy/pasted music with lyrics.
When you do so, Finale displays the same lyrics in both places.
Change a syllable in one place, and the same syllable is also changed in the other place.

Generally it is better, not to add the lyrics until you have finished entering all the music.

Something else to consider:
When you enter lyrics via the “Type Into Score” method, the Lyrics window will display the lyrics in the order of entry.
If you e. g. begin with entering the refrain at the end, and later go back to the beginning, and enter the verse, then the refrain will display first in the Lyrics window.

To avoid this kind of trouble, consider, first entering the lyrics in the correct order in the Lyrics window, and next inserting the lyrics into the score via Click Assignment.

miker,
Making changes in the lyric window, rather than in the score seems to work best.
Thanks!

Peter Thomsen,

Putting lyrics in is usually the last thing I do. And I did not copy/paste anything with lyrics. But that would make sense if I had.

I have never used "Click Assignment." I'll try that next time.

Thank you for your help.

That's not correct. If you copy and paste music with lyrics, Finale creates new lyrics for the duplication. Changes to the original lyrics do not change the copy; nor vice versa.

Only if you Clone Lyrics is a second instance of the same lyric used. (As the name suggests.) Or indeed, you can Click Assign the same lyrics more than once.
