In a Piano score I'd like to reduce velocity for Left Hand.

So I select Staff 2, then Midi tool/ Set to

Bu default is 64. I write 40, but I cannot hear any difference at all when I Playback.

When I go again to Midi tool/ Set to I always see 64, never the number I wrote.

I appreciate your always valuable help.

Try this way instead (it works for me):

MIDI Tool.
MIDI Tool menu > Key Velocities
Double-click the (first measure in the) selected region.
The window MIDI Tool appears, showing the staff with a handle on each note.
Drag-select the handles on the notes.
MIDI menu > Set To…
The window Set To appears.
Type 40 in the field.
Click OK.
Click Close.

Thank you, Peter, but

1) on the MIDI menu the most similar thing to Key Velocities is EDIT KEY VELOCITIES

2)"Double-click the (first measure in the) selected region.
The window MIDI Tool appears, showing the staff with a handle on each note."

I cannot see any handle at all. All I see is a graphic . I don't know to modify the figures appear on it

I am using the Mac version, and you are using the Windows version.
The different menu item wording might be a (small) difference between the Mac version and the Windows version.

In my MIDI Tool menu I have the following menu items:

Key Velocities
Note Durations
Continuous Data…
Tempo
Set To…
Scale…
Add…
Percent Alter…
Limit…
Alter Feel…
Randomize…
Clear
Edit MIDI Note…
Fit to Time…
Play
Show Selected Notes
Dragging Copies Music
Dragging Copies MIDI Data
Apply Human Playback…
