I cannot get my midi to enter notes at all

Finale 2011 for windows.

I have been away from Finale for several years and when I wanted to enter notes in speedy or hyperscribe - nothing. Simple entry does work and previously written music plays back and can be modified in simple entry.

I feel that the problem is in the MIDI set up but it is obvious that I am missing a step and any help would be appreciated. Also, it should be noted that I am pretty much an idiot about computers and am in the school of turn it on and if it doesn't work, ask for help.

In the speedy menu, have you checked "Use MIDI device for Input"?
