Hi
I have this simple kick/snare bar (see 1. on left)
I simply want to add 4 hi-hat notes on each quarter
I'm sure there must be a cleaner way to write it down than this (see 2. on right), especially without using ties.
Any help is appreciated.

Use layers. This is a basic Finale operation. Please take the time to watch the instructional videos.
I'm not a percussionist, so if I misunderstand what you want, another picture might help.

I'm having problems when hiding rests that automatically fills into layers.
ctrl, click on rest and then H if I got it right.
When I ctrl+ click over the staff something seems to load endlessly and rest do not select.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure what you mean by ctrl-clicking above the staff. You need only ctrl-click on the note or rest.
Could you elaborate?

When I ctrl+ click over a note or rest these do not select, the whole bar select.
Just before that, when I pass over the staff and ctrl is pressed, mouse pointer keep blinking with a little CD image, like if something is loading from a CD (don't even have a CD reader installed)

Got it. In order for ctrl-click to work, you need to be in Simple Entry to begin with. It sound like you are in the Selection Tool. The little CD is actually the spinning circle Windows uses when it is thinking, similar to the hourglass.
