Hello,
I am wanting to create a syncopated triplet spanning 2 quarter notes that consists of an eighth-rest, followed by 2 quarter notes, then 2 sixteenth notes. I would include an example of what I mean, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a picture of this rhythm. Every time I attempt to create this, I encounter what seems to be a bug and I end up with a 32nd rest at the end instead of the 16th rest I need, or the triplet gets hopelessly confused and ends up missing entire quarter notes and the like. I apologise if this is unclear; I can include examples in reply to this post of some of the problems I have run into if that is needed. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum!

1) There are several methods to enter tuplets:
Speedy Entry Tool
Simple Entry Tool
MIDI keyboard
Computer keyboard
Mouse/Trackpad

Which method are you using?

2) Is your tuplet ending a measure?

3) Is “Check for Extra Notes” selected or de-selected?

Is this what you are looking for? As Peter said, there are a number of ways to enter tuplets. If you let us know more about how you are working, I'm sure we can help you.

Apologies for not being specific enough! I had tried using the Simple Entry Tool, the computer keyboard, and the mouse/trackpad, all without success. The tuplet is ending a measure. I am unable to find "Check for Extra Notes" anywhere, and the search function didn't reveal anything to me.

Initially, I had attempted to insert a quarter note and used the Alt+9 shortcut to specify 3 quarter notes across 1 half note/2 quarter notes. I then tried filling the tuplet with 3 quarter notes, then changing the first to an eighth rest, then adding two sixteenths at the end. At least, that's what I believe I was doing, but I can no longer remember the exact steps.

Simple Entry Tool.
Simple menu > Simple Entry Options…

De-select the option “Check for Extra Notes”, and you should be able to enter the tuplet.
