I would like a deeper sound for the snare in my current piece, something like the digital Linn drum machine that was popular in the mid eighties. While I have not tried all the drums accessible through Score Manager, so far all the drum kits I have tried have the same snare sound.

Exporting the audio and using my DAW's EQ to beef up the snare is an option, but that is a lot of work as I would need to duplicate the track, boost the 150 Hz - 250 Hz frequencies then lower the volume before mixing the two as any EQ to the snare effects the hi-hat also.

Is there a VST plugin available or perhaps some way to add bass to the snare in Finale?

Ah. The Linn 9000. Fabulous machine. We used that on a project that wrapped up in 1987. That was some drum machine.

The Linn sold for $3,000 if my memory serves me correctly.

I'm still hopeful a plugin is available. Right now, to simulate a drum roll, I import the Finale drums wav file into Audacity and use the pitch shift tool to lower every second peak in the waveform by a little less than a semitone; otherwise the paradiddles sound mechanical. I cannot do the same for the timpani as the peaks corresponding to the hammerings are not so defined.

No way to deepen the snare in Finale?

Have you tried one of these? "3 free Linndrum LM-1 VSTi plugins": https://blog.wavosaur.com/3-free-linndr ... i-plugins/

Jun's Linn drum VST plugin is not only incompatible with Finale, it doesn't even work in any DAW I have used. I think he need to worry about copyright as no software seems to support his "free" DLL. Rather silly.

I'll have to EQ each snare sound in my DAW to obtain a fatter sound. Finale has a myriad of exotic soundfonts, most of which nobody will ever use. But only one snare drum. Hmm.

There are many different percussion VSTs out there from free to low cost to very expensive. If you have an acoustic drum you like, a sampler can turn it into a VI for you.

Google is your friend.

I downloaded eleven drum VST plugins, and none are compatible with Finale. In the past, I have successfully installed a classical guitar plugin, loading it into Finale's plugins folder the accessing it from the "Device" drop-down menu in Score Manager. But all the drum plugins are not supported by Finale. I either install or copy the DLL into the following location.

C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale2012\VST Support.

Have you created any soundfonts? Perhaps you can recommend a sampler that does not require scripting or a a college coarse to use.

Check here: http://www.freesound.org. I've downloaded several useful sounds that I've used in Finale.

College course? None require that but you do have to know what you are doing. Begin here:

Are you sure that you downloaded and installed the correct VST version?
VSTi plugins usually work in Finale. But you need to download the 32bit for everything until 2014.5, and 64bit for Fin25.

A Linn drum VST is for example available here. And the UVI Workstation VST plugin also works in Finale - both in 32bit and 64bit.

I have just downloaded and tested it. It does work in Finale (tested in Fin2014.5/Windows10). Also the installation went fully automatically.
Here is a simple drum pattern Finale document with Junn loaded as VST.

Make sure you use the General MIDI percussion map.
