I know I should know the answer to my question, but it's been so long that had to solve this that I forgot how. When I assign an expression to several staffs in a score, moving one moves all the others. For these expressions I have unchecked "Use Tempo Alterations Category Positioning," but the problem persists. I've also removed the expressions, unchecked as indicated, and reassigned, to no avail. Did I miss a setting to get expressions to move independently?

This may set you in the right direction, although it may be a little different in Windows. On a Mac with UK keyboard you press the grave accent ` key while moving the expression. That ought to do it anyway, but it may depend on how you assigned the multi-stave expression.

It might be easier to assign all the expressions individually instead of assigning one expression to many staves.

Something's going on here.

motet: I used to be able to use a score list for any expression and move assignments individually without affecting others. Is this a backward step in the latest Finale 25.5 "improvements"? The problem occurs only in one file, so far--a piece I recently started from a template.

David Ward: I tried Shift, Control, and Alt, but all the expressions still moved. Still, I shouldn't have to do that. I must have missed a setting somewhere, but I can't remember what I did previously to solve this problem.

I may have to re-create the score, copy everything over, and see if that corrects it.

It works the same way in Windows. The key on my keyboard is to the left of the QWERTY 1 key. It is the combined tilde and grave accent key.

P.S.: According to the manual, the tilde key is only needed to move the Master Expression (the one assigned to the top staff, generally) without moving the others. The other staves already move independently.
