Mouse cursor disappear over page

Hello
After a long pause I started using Finale again on a different computer with Windows 8 Home.
When I open my old Finale files everything seems fine, except the cursor arrow, when is moved over the page, turn into a square with a cross inside, this prevent me to select the various objects (texts etc.)

I had a pretty solid experience with Finale, but here I'm doing something wrong.
I recall there was the arrow tool that could be selected but I can't see it anymore.

Normally, tapping the ESC key a few times gets you back to the selection tool. It sounds like you may need to reset your preference files.
