I don't understand this Part. 2

A while back I ask for help with a split measure. I thought I knew how to do a split measure because when I did it on my copy of file. It worked just fine. Boy was I wrong. When I did it I had an eight-note rest left over. Now I need to do it again for another piece of music. And I am lost as to what to do. I read though the manual and just got myself all confused. Here is the music in question

In measure 58 there should only be 1 note. No rest. the timing is 6/8.

… In measure 58 there should only be 1 note. No rest. the timing is 6/8.
And in measure 57 there should only be the notes. No 8th rest - right?
So that measure 57 and measure 58 together add up to a complete 6/8 measure - right?
Which means that measure 57 and measure 58 originally were one 6/8 measure (which must have been measure 57) - right?

What I would do:

Go back to the original layout where measure 57 and measure 58 were one 6/8 measure, containing 3 Eighths, 1 Quarter, and 1 Eighth.
Selection Tool.
Select only the measure’s final Eighth.
Then, run the Split Measure plug-in:
Plug-ins menu > Measures > Split Measure…

If I understand you correctly, you have this:
SplitMeasure-A.jpg
- and you need to get to this:
SplitMeasure-B.jpg
- right?

(Click on the attached graphics, to view them at full size)

1) My first guess is that you should put the number 1 in there (not the number 2).

2) If you first select the partial measure (like e. g. only the first eighth), then the plug-in will put the correct number
in there for you.

This is what is in the printed sheet music.

I hope this gives a better image of what I have.

Enter measure 57 like this:
SplitMeasure-1.jpg
SplitMeasure-1.jpg (7.27 KiB) Viewed 1422 times

Then, run the Split Measure plug-in (Plug-ins menu > Measures > Split Measure…) to get this:
SplitMeasure-2.jpg
SplitMeasure-2.jpg (7.44 KiB) Viewed 1422 times

Now measure 57 is two measures, of 5/8 and 1/8.
Let us call them 57a and 57b.

Measure Tool.
Double-click measure 57a, and change the measure’s right barline to a Final barline:

Then, use the Repeat Tool to create the Repeat Endings.
In the Repeat menu there is a utility to create 1st and 2nd ending.
Select measure 56, and run the utility.

I am really starting to feel like an Idiot. Right now, I am inserting measure 57, 3 eights, 1 quarter, 1 eight. I go to plug ins menu > Measures > Split Measure. How many numbers and do I choose dash line?

By the way thank you for your patience.

1) If you - before opening the plug-in - (drag-)select the partial measure (like e. g. only the last eighth), then the plug-in will put the correct number in there for you.

2) Whether you choose the dash barline or the invisible barline, does not really matter.
Afterwards you will change that barline to a Final Barline.

You probably want to uncheck the box that says to move the second half of the split to a new system, which is checked by default.

Peter Thomsen Thank you so much for all your help. I was finally able to get it to work. I deleted everything back to Measure 57. left everything to the right empty. selected the last eight note in measure 57 only chose split measure It came back as 5. Clicked on that after I unclicked the part that said move the second half to new system.

Why I had so much trouble yesterday I don't know.

I have another question but well wait tell tomorrow when I am more relaxed.

Thanks to all who help.
