Hi, I am new to the forum. I am writing a textbook on Flamenco guitar theory and I am wondering about notating examples without time signatures and how to extract small bits such as single bars for inserting into a works document. Anybody got any helpful hints?

Thanks :D

Can I write a document using Finale and use the tools only when I need to notate?

To hide time signature and barlines, use the Measure Tool:
Select the measures, and double-click on the selected.
In the Measure Attributes, set the Time Signature pop up menu to "Always Hide".
Choose "Invisible" for the barline.

It might also be a good idea to fit the music with one measure per system (Mass Edit Tool).
Since the time signature is hidden, you can make the time signatures as big as you need, e. g. 23 quarters in one measure, 19 quarters in another measure, &c.

To export a small bit, use the Graphics Tool:
Double-click, and drag to draw a "crop rectangle".
Then go to
Graphics menu > Export Selection...
My guess is that the TIFF graphics format will be the best export choice.

Thank you Peter. I appreciate it very much. I just read THE JAZZ THEORY BOOK by Mark Levine and he used Finale so I am very excited. I like the layout of the book.

Thanks. :D

Also, is it possible to make fretboard tabs or maps more like a diagram than staff paper?
And are there ways to design something such as circle of fifths or other designs?

There is no pop-up window when I double click in the measure tool. Measure attributes pop up but there is nothing to do with barlines or time signature. Is my program faulty?

It is Finale Guitar.

I assume using the Cadenza option is the same thing but what about hiding barlines?

Actually it is not the same-I want to hide the time signature.
