well, to beg more info about another demo problem i have with i try to put in tuplets that are not a multiple of 3--
on the demo this evening, i had a 4/4 bar where each quarter note value was being given a run of 7 notes - or 28 total notes in the bar, OK?
this would use 16th notes, because i would need more than 8 and less than 16 notes per quarter to use 32nds, right?
so i enter the first 16th, click on it with the tuplet tool, go to the box and tell it that in the space of 1 quarter i want to use 7 16th notes. it works fine for beat 1, 2, and 3 of the bar. BUTTT, beat 4 will take 6 of the 7 16th notes - it only leaves me ONE 32nd rest for the 7th note. AND, guys, i have tried this with 5 note runs, 10, you name it. 6 note runs work fine.
what am i doing wrong? or am i doing anything wrong? is this different in the real finale? or do i adjust as i did on the demo by making the 7th note on the LAST bar beat a 32nd note?
i appreciate your help and knowledge. this is my first day on the forum. :) :)

hermanding,

If I understand you correctly you are entering notes with the Simple Entry Tool, not the Speedy Entry Tool, right?

To enter the septuplet you don't have to switch to the Tuplet Tool.
You can enter the septuplet directly from the Simple Entry Tool, since the Simple Entry Tool has its own Tuplet (sub-)Tool.
No need to leave the Simple Entry Tool.

In this example let's say that you want to enter 7 'A's as a septuplet.
With "computer keyboard entry" the entry string goes like this:

NumPad 3 (Sixteenths...)
A (...entering the first sixteenth...)
Alt-9 (...Simple Entry Tuplet Definition...)
7 (...I want 7 sixteenths...)
Tab (...in the space of...)
4 (...4 sixteenths...)
A (...entering the next sixteenth...)
A
A
A
A
A (...entering the last sixteenth...)

Peter

PS
You can use 32nds instead of 16ths.
It's unusual with seven 32nds per quarter, but Finale can do it.
As a matter of fact, Finale can create any tuplet you might need.

forgive me - i did not reply with my results. i can get the last note of the tuplet (7, 9, whatever) using peter's solución. AT TIMES i can get some rest - 64th maybe - that will go at the beginning of the NEXT bar - not all the time. it does not leave the bar, but it does not seem to impact the next bar at all as far as time values.

My guess is that the 32nd rest you can see isn't at the beginning of the next measure, but rather at the end of the previous measure, thus "overfilling" that measure.

You can check it with the Speedy Entry Tool:
Position the Speedy Entry rectangle in the measure, and click outside the measure to make the rectangle exit the measure.
If the measure is overfilled, Speedy Entry Tool will display the dialog box "There are too many notes...".
One of the options in the dialog box is "Delete the extra notes".
