Hello,

Does anybody know which effect a plus sign has on a note? I have only found it in old scores. I cannot perceive a big difference when I add this articulation in Finale, so I was wondering if anybody could tell me its meaning. Is it like a >?

Thank you.

John

A plus sign on a note in old music means an ornament (trill, mordent etc.)

for MY info, at least - is a plus sign ever used to signal the beginning of brass playing with mutes? or is that always -con sordino? :D
