Once I have programmed all the music I will be using for a theory text what is the best way to format it. Can Finale handle minor word processing and publishing tasks?

You can add text items to your score, but it is a bit clunky. You might be better off using a desktop publisher program (DTP) and exporting your Finale bits to a TIFF or EPS file.

What I do to print Theory exams (One of the things I do most with Finale):

1. Create your example;

2. Go to TOOLS menu;

3. Select ADVANCED TOOLS and then GRAPHICS
(a new GRAPHICS Menu appears)

4. Double click and drag (on Windows) over your example;

5. From the GRAPHICS menu select EXPORT SELECTION;

6. Select graphic type (either Tiff or EPS) and then set resolution. Save your graphics files where you can locate them and import them into your publishing program.

When I am finished with the Publisher program I save the Theory Exam as a PDF which shrinks the file size dramatically.

This method may seem cumbersome as well, but the alignment tools and the manipulation available in the DTP software is far better than what FINALE can accomplish.

Having siad this however, I really haven't seen something FINALE can't do, as long as you have the patience and determination.

Good Luck.
